Pros: inexpensive, stays clean, good size, easy to use
Cons: NONE
This is the waterer you have all been waiting for!!! I brood in rubbermaid bins with pine shavings and was SO TIRED for constantly cleaning out my cheap plastic waterer.
These stay CLEAN!!! No more birds climbing in the lip or on top of it and pooping in the water, No more birds knocking the waterer over and wetting the whole bin. No more constantly checking and emptying shavings and who-knows-what out of the just cleaned waterer. THESE STAY CLEAN, DON'T SPILL, DON'T LEAK and are easy to rinse out and refill.

I used a piece of fencing to hang these from the side at variable heights, depenging on the size of the chicks. I have 4 brooder boxes going, one with 5 wk chicks, one with 2 2 and 3 week chicks, one with 2 week ducks and one with one week ducks. THEY ALL LOVE IT!!! I was concerned that they may not get the hang of it since I had been using another style, but they all took to it right away. I was FINALLY able to sleep through the night knowing all of my girls would have clean, available water.

They are twice the price of the plastic waterers we are all used to, but trust me, it is SOOOO worth it!!!!

Pros: inexpensive
Cons: leaks, unsteady, easily soiled
I purchased four of these for brooder boxes and from day one have hated them. Unless they are perfectly level (which is impossible on top of pine shavings) the water runs out and soaks the bedding. It hardly weighs anything, so bigger (3 week +) birds knock it over easily. There is ALWAYS droppings and shaving in the water. When the birds are small, they step in it and poop, and when they are larger they perch on the top and do the same thing. Even the small chicks fill it with shavings within minutes of being in the box, forget the older birds. The water will NEVER be clean, it takes them about two seconds to dirty it up after you clean it out. I wouldn't leave the house for more than a few short hours because I knew when I got back none of my chicks would have water. Even over night I would get up and clean them out at LEAST once, usually more.

SPEND A LITTLE MORE AND GET A WATERER THAT WORKS!!!! IT'S NOT THIS ONE!
Pros: funny, good layers, good size
Cons: bold, loud

With her "sisters"

Of all my girls, Sharon by BSL, was my favorite. She was a little agressive at first (we adopted her at 4 months), but she quickly became a wonderful companion and entertainer. Her eggs were medium brown with little dark brown spots, a good medium size, and layed about 5 times a week. All though she was the smallest of a 5 girls flock (others Americaunas and EE's) she ruled the roost. She kept the others in line with an occasional pecking, but they all went where she went and did what she did. There was no shyness in her, she was always the first to run to me when I came in the yard and not afraid to come right up and meet new people. For my chicken fearing friends, she was a little to bold (she would follow relentlessly, sometimes chase, but never with agression).

The only downside for a truly backyard flock is that she was very vocal and would not hesitate to jump the 8 foot fence when neighbors were out to go visit with them (luckily they didn't mind, but it could have been a bad situation depending). We ended up loosing her to what I believe was an intestional blockage from a piece of plastic bag she found while scratching for worms.

We just got a new BSL chick for the 2013 season. So far very hardy, and obviously CUTE!

I would highly recommend this breed to anyone.
