Pros: Large water volume capacity, does not leak when properly filled, handle is easy on your hands, very durable
Cons: Lid can be tricky to tighten
Anyone who has raised chickens and uses water founts knows the struggle of finding a good waterer that does not leak. I've used these waterers for nearly 5 years, and they are almost completely leak-free. Once you tighten the lid correctly, the waterer's vacuum system holds the water at the proper level; you don't have to place it on precisely level ground like some bell-style waterers. 5 gallons of water is enough to last a small flock for over a week, although it can get heavy to carry. The material is tough, doesn't crack, and can put up with a lot of wear and tear--I'm still using the first one I bought 5 years ago.
Pros: Sturdy
Cons: Gets filled almost instantly with shavings and poop, chicks roost on it, food at bottom rarely ever gets eaten, difficult to fill
If you're looking for a roost for your peeps, look no further! But as a feeder it really isn't very good, even though it is made out of tough materials. It gets filled instantly with kicked shavings and poop from perching birds, preventing the chicks from getting to the feed. The food at the bottom does not get eaten because you fill it from the top, after scraping out dirty litter. I tried propping it up on boards, but it still was perched on and got filled to overflowing with litter. The lid is hard to pop off without spilling feed. Overall I would definitely not recommend this feeder.

Pros: Fabulous hatchability, does not eat a lot of food, good foragers, intelligent, ok production of beautiful dark brown/speckled eggs
Cons: Extremely loud and fussy, not very heat tolerant
I've been hatching Welsumer eggs for years. They have great hatchability, and vigorous health. They're still relatively rare in the U.S. Their eggs are gorgeous, and they're active, alert birds who tolerate the cold well (not so much the heat). They are sometimes very noisy, but overall they're a great chicken breed.
