Silkie

Pros: calm, good with children
Cons: broody, not a great layer, get picked on by other breeds
We had a Silkie that my 2 year old loved & used to carry around. She went broody a lot and did not lay well but we tolerated her cause my daughter loved her. She ended up being a lot of trouble for us though because she did not get along well with our other hens. They were always picking on our Silkie to the point where they attacked her so badly she ended up dying. Maybe they would do well with only Silkies, but if you have other chickens as well they might not mix well with them.

Wyandotte

Pros: stunningly beautiful, docile, non-aggressive, some are friendly
Cons: some can be flighty
I have 3 Golden Laced Wyandotte pullets; they are 5 months old. They are not laying yet, so I can't comment on that. They are stunningly beautiful and a pleasure to watch in my yard. Each of mine has a different personality; one is friendly and loves to be held and petted. One is flighty and doesn't like to be touched but is not aggressive. The third is hard to catch but she is calm and will tolerate some petting when you catch her. I hand raised them and held them quite a bit as chicks.
