Pros: great egg layer, forager, pest control, friendly, beautiful
Cons: can't find any
I bought my welsh for her sheer beauty but recently read that they are on the critically endangered list. This duck provides hours of enjoyment. Not to mention she keeps the weeds and bugs in my garden and around my house, at bay. She is also a prolific egg layer. Definitely a species we need to save!

Pros: friendly, cute and great forager
Cons: short life span
Pekins are the epitomy of what you think of when you think duck. They are cute fuzzy yellow peeps when little and grow into a waddling, chattering, funny, beautifully white feathered ducks with bright orange bills/feet. Because they are mostly bred for food, they get enormous in a short time which makes it difficult for them to get around and apparently from what i just read, they have a much shorter life span becuase of it :( I have mine for the fun of it, but have recently discovered the wonderfully delicious duck egg! Who knew?! Pekins' eggs make even jumbo sized chicken eggs look miniscule.

Pros: friendly, curious, very entertaining
Cons: so far, I can't find any cons
I purchased 4 peeps and they have turned out to be the best chicks ever! Granted I am fairly new at this and they are still not fully grown (about 9 weeks old), but they are so friendly. they perch on my finger. they are extremely curious and will come right up to you when you open the door to the coop. They are also very entertaining. I would definitely recommend these to anyone but especially to someone just starting out. Can't wait til they start laying.
