Sebright

Pros: GORGEOUS!!!! Pretty good mothers, and okay layers
Cons: extremely flighty, the only way I can touch one of my hens is when they're broody
I had one of my hens hatch out her own chicks, and she's been a really good mother so far. I tried to get my other hen to adopt chicks, but she didn't accept them. She's still broody, and is putting up a fight to stay that way. I'm not sure why people say Sebrights aren't broody, because 2/2 of my hens went broody:hmm

Cons: extremely flighty, prefer to sleep outside
Will not get again because of their dislike for humans.

Pros: Very sweet, great layer
Cons: wouldn't get them again, but nothing wrong with them at all
When mine were teenagers, they would all sleep on my lap every night, but they soon died off from predators. Even though they were amazing, I wouldn't get them again because I want to experience more breeds.

Australorp

Pros: Very docile, AMAZING mothers, great layers of large eggs.
Cons: NONE
I've only had one adult black australorp (BA), but she was the sweetest thing. I got her as an adult along with 4 other breed hens. She was the only sweet one. She let me hold her, etc. Very soon after getting her, she went broody and was the best mother I've had. Definitely recommend for beginners, and experienced chicken owners.

Pros: one of the most beautiful breeds around, lay gorgeous blue-green eggs
Cons: Not as nice as Ameraucanas
For some reason, In my experience, Ameraucanas have just been more docile. Even they come from the same order, and breeding place, I've just found EEs to be more skittish. Also, people commonly mistake them for an actual breed. An Easter Egger is an Ameraucana that doesn't fit the breeding standards of Ameraucanas. For example, if your hen is an "Ameraucana", but doesn't have tufts and a beard, then it is an EE. Also, there is only a few colors that are "true Ameraucana", so if you have any different colors, then it is an EE. Here is the website to find the breed standards: http://ameraucanabreedersclub.org/standard.html
Pros: Friendliest chicken ever, amazing broody hen, pretty, small, roosters are super nice
Cons: NONE
My hen will literally walk up to me with the intention of being held

The same hen had disappeared for about 4 weeks, and then I walked into my horse barn and she had 8 chicks! Sneaky girl. She raised them with gentleness and carefulness. My rooster is also super nice. My OEGB are the nicest chickens I own. Best breed for having a broody hen and a lovable pet. My female is so nice to every chicken in the flock, including every chick she comes by. I never see her peck a chick that's not even hers. AMAZING BREED

Barred Rock

Pros: Great at foraging, pretty, blend in with surroundings, good layers, tame
Cons: none that I can think of.
I used to have around 5 or 6 barred rock hens, and they were such a blast. If you start taming when chicks, they should be very nice birds when older. Mine laid a lot of eggs, and are great foragers. Totally recommend.

Japanese

Pros: broody, okay mothers
Cons: attack other chicks, super skittish, lethal gene
I have two Japanese hens raising chicks together since they wouldn't let me separate them:hugsThey are decent mothers, but one of them would peck at the chicks until she got used to them. I had another hen that was broody, and my japanese hen killed one of her chicks. They aren't an outstanding breed so I definitely wouldn't get again.:smack
Pros: Extremely tame (even the roosters!), Lay large brown eggs, survived through many predator stages
Cons: NONE
Surprisingly, my lovely hens are still alive, even through all the predator stages that have taken over 35 of my other chickens :(. The hens lay very often, and lay large brown eggs. If you decide to tame them as chicks, it's totally worth it. My hens are sooo nice and are completely fine with being held.

Pros: BEAUTIFUL! friendly, not dominant, beautiful egg colors, good towards other chickens, very sweet even when not tame

I really enjoy my Ameraucanas. They are great birds and are absolutely gorgeous! I totally recommend them to everyone.

Pros: beautiful bird, friendly if trained, great mothers
Cons: Ideal Poultry's BO are not good, chase me trying to attack
I got my Buff Orpingtons (BO) from Ideal Poultry. I think that they bred them terribly. They left bad traits that are very unenjoyable. Now, I'm not saying BO's are a bad breed, I'm blaming Ideal Poultry. I would really like to get them from another hatchery. It would be awesome for you to get some yourself, but be careful where you get them from. My BOs chase me trying to bite my heels. NOT FUN. Again, I don't blame them.
