Pros: Quiet, Sweet Temperament, Excellent Free-Rangers
Cons: NONE!
I have 16 BPR hens and I love them!! I have hand raised this gagle of hens since they were 2 days old and from that day I just loved their temperament!! I ordered mine from Cackle Hatchery and they came out of their shipping box like little ball of fluff rockets LOL! My son and one of the hens when they were young are my avatar. They are almost 10 weeks old now and they still come running to me and my son and will even sit in out laps! My son can walk up to them and pick them up and hug on them... it's quite cute to watch! I recently got 2 black sex-link hens and I did not realize how lucky I was with my BPR's. Those 2 sex-links are so LOUD!! My BPR's never whisper a WORD... which is another reason why I think I don't have problems with aerial predation in an area known for HAWKS. These girls are excellent free-rangers... well mine are technically pasture raised... they don't parade around the food buckets they go out and get it and now I am hardly having to feed any food! Mine are only 10 weeks old and so they have not started laying yet so I can't wait for that of course!

Pros: Good layers, mothers
Cons: None that I found
We started off with a mixed flock of 4 BRs, 4 Brahmas and 4 RIRs bought from three separate suppliers. They integrated well and, though the rooster was bossy, he didn't throw his weight around with the Brahma roo. They were friendly towards us and the hens laid well.

Pros: Loves to tell you about their day,Hillarious,Curious.Lots of personality.
Cons: Sometimes bossy,
Barred rocks are also a nice Chicken to start off with. they lay large brown eggs.are very active, mine loves mint.. lol
Pros: Friendly, good layers.
Cons: None.
I have had two Barred Rocks. One was Lady Lacey (R.I.P.), and one was Speckles. Lacey was a good layer until she became randomly sick at about three years old. Speckles was a rooster, and I had him from a chick until a few months after he started to crow (the neighbors complained). We found a good home for him farther out in the country, but he was sooo friendly. It was probably because I raised him from so young, but he would jump on my lap and fall asleep in my arms. He never attacked me or any of the three hens i had at that time. BTW he was as tall as my knees (I was around 5'2'') and weighed like 16-18 pounds.
Pros: Good layers, friendly, pretty
Cons: Tend to be kind of dominant, usually become the Alpha chicken.
I highly recommend barred Rocks, they are good layers and tons of fun. Good beginner hens too. If you do get them, they will for sure become the dominant birds in your flock.

Pros: docile, good with other birds
Cons: none
We got two barred rock chicks with eight other breeds (silkies, a buff orpington, rhode island reds, a light brahma, and a wyandotte) to add to our small flock of three older hens. Both barred rocks turned out to be hens. One is much larger than the other, but they are both sweet and good with people. They don't like to be held very much, but they are curious. They are also beautiful birds. I haven't noticed them being bossy and they are in the middle of the pecking order with one very old, grizzled black sex hen link at the top!
Pros: Excellent layers, very sweet, inquisitive, and loving
Cons: Sometimes a Little "Slow" in the thinking department.
Ours gets along great with new additions to the flock, very friendly.

She's not always the smartest bird in the flock, though. Even with 5 other hens to learn from, it still took her about a week after laying to lay her eggs in one of the two nesting boxes.
Pros: Very Friendly, Very protective with the ladies, Hardy, Fit's in well with other Breeds.
Cons: Can't think of any, at least when it comes to my Roo.
I absolutely love Fred My Boy. He is very good to the ladies, very watchful of them and does well with his mate, our Silkie (Banana), who is also a roo. Fred My Boy, is 7 months old and I am pleased to say that he has yet to attack anyone and is kind to us about letting us know our boundaries. All I ever hear is good things about this type of chicken. I do not have any lady Barred Rocks but I heard they are one of the best overall laying hens. Just my thoughts and opinions.
Pros: sweet temperement
Cons: they get big
I love my barred rocks. They are very docile, but they don't take heat from other birds. When challenged, they will stick up for themselves, but they are not bossy or mean or bullies at all. I have 2, and they lay nearly everyday...some weeks it is 7 days a week, other weeks, it is 6 days a week. They layed through winter. They are large compared to my other breeds. They are not flighty at all. Barred rocks are my fave breed so far.
Pros: Best layer we have, very sweet girl, Very tame
Cons: She kicks 99% of the food on the ground before anyone can get to it
Pros: Great with kids, friendly, aware of predators, quiet.
Cons: Eats more than our two RIRs combined, often gets pecked on by others.
I love my barred rock. We bought her off craigslist from a breeder when she was about four months old. She's great with kids, loves being picked up and has never attacked, and absolutely LOVES people. Her feathers are extremely soft and she has a lot of fluff. She is very trusting and will fall asleep in my lap. The only time she is ever loud is if she sees a predator, she will squawk loudly and hide when she sees anything in the sky- airplanes, crows, literally anything. She doesn't even trust the family dog. She is a great layer but eats so much... it's shocking how much of a foodie she is. Since she is so docile, she is at the bottom of the pecking order and gets pecked on by the others. If you're looking for a family-friendly bird and great layer, I would highly recommend the barred rock.

These Barred Rocks are so beautiful. I'd love to have those. I'm still in the decision stage. So far, I think I'll start out with just two babies. I'm still working on their coop. I have the actual core, but I must fence in underneath the back upstairs deck. It will be 20X20 X10. That should give them plenty of room. I was going to let them be free range, but after watching some videos, where a man said, "If you're going to be free range, just understand that you're going to have some dead chickens," I decided to keep them in a large cage. Their coop will be inside.
Pros: Early maturity, friendly, cold hardy
My Barred Rocks were to first to start to lay out of my flock.
They are friendly and good layers. Definitely my favorite breed.
Out of my four hens, my Barred Rock is the most vocal - especially when I have treats! She is very sweet and an absolute beauty.
Pros: Lots of eggs, beautiful, easy to tame, good pets, have enough feathers to stay warm in the winter, funny, enjoyable, sweet, caring, adorable, ect...
Cons: Doesn't lay too much in winter.
I LOVE my barred rocks! Very enjoyable and I easily attached to them, they were my first chicken breed! Easy to care for, sweet, and other wonderful things! I love them! I wouldn't be crazy for chickens without them!

They are little saviors for my heart! They are easy to tame and once they're tame you'd think they were angles! I love them and the one con I put in isn't too big, I still got eggs this winter

Pros: Friendly, Fun Personality, Good Layer
Cons: Bossy Bossy Bossy
I have 3 Buff Barred Rock Pullets.....they are wonderful. I love sitting out and watching their antics. The only thing that bothers me about them is they are very bossy to my other pullets (3 Iowa Blues). They are definitely establishing their pecking order. They love to eat the treats out of my hand or grab them out of my fingers. Very pretty as well.
Pros: Great egg layers, always in a good mood, and very climate tolerant
Cons: A tad it broody
Great chickens
