Belgian d'Uccle

This breed was developed in Belgium by Michel Van Gelder, a fancier who lived in the small town...
The roosters are handsome little birds with some beautiful colorations. All the ones I own are for show use and are funny little birds to own. And are the cutest little chicks.

Cons: None that I can think of.
I absolutey love my d'Uccle's. They are so sweet and easy to tame. Great setters. Roosters don't have a mean bone in their body!(At least mne) And they are beautiful!

Cons: does poor in cold and are poor layers
This tiny breed has stolen my heart! They are very sweet, docile, cooperative and adorable. They are also great for show. The judges simply adore them! My only negative comments are that they are poor layers and are'nt cold hardy.

Pros: Adorable
Cons: Feathers on feet get broken in winter
I don't currently have my little guys but man, I miss them! These are one of the cutest breeds I have seen! The trio I had were all nice little birds but had a tendency to try and roost outside.Other than that, they were great! I will be getting some in the future again I'm sure. Recommended!!

Pros: friendly, attractive, good free ranger, good flier
Cons: too small to fight off predators, feathered feet inhibit running
Some of the first chickens I owned were Belgian d'Uccle bantams. I had a male Mille Fleur and a female White. They were two of the sweetest chickens we ever owned. Both of them were of good quality, and the male was particularly beautiful, and with every molt his feathers came back more and more brilliant. The female took a long time to come into lay, but I think this was because she had coccidiosis when she was young. However, when she finally started laying, she laid fairly consistently, and it was always so adorable to see her tiny egg laid in the same clutch as those of the larger birds in the flock. Both of them could fly extremely well. They were very tame when handled and sometimes sought out our companionship.

Unfortunately, our hen was taken (presumably by a fox) without a trace, and our cock died while in the care of an irresponsible poultry keeper who was watching the birds while my family and I were moving. However, I will always cherish the memory of "Bilbo" and "Edwina."

If you have kids, these birds are the choice for you.

Pros: Docile, friendly, very cute with boots and beards, they can handle cold NE temperatures
Cons: Slow moving, easy target for predators, no other cons
They are a very well known popular bird. I havent found a single thing a dislike about th breed. Theyre easy to tell from other breeds and have great individual personalities from my experience. My Mille rooster is the smartest chicken I have. Very aware and alert for predators at ALL times. D'uccle roosters are so excepting and fatherly to the young

Pros: Can be very friendly, "cool" appearance.
Cons: Lots of "mille fleur d'uccles" out there that aren't really d'uccles.
My little bantam chickens with their "pants" on. Everyone that sees them says how much they like them...I have mille fleur variety...some say they look like they have a cheetah pattern. Best breed I've had by far. Will always be my favorite.

Pros: Cute/pretty, sweet, docile, gentle
Cons: Don't seem extremely cold hardy
D'uccles are a tiny, pretty, docile breed. I only have mille fleurs, but all the color varieties are beautiful. My rooster was a two year old farm chicken when he came to live with us in 2010, so he was nobody's "pet." But he will take treats from my hand and will hop up to sit beside me when I sit outside with my flock. His profuse foot feathering gives him a rather clownish look when he runs. My female d'uccle (was a TS chick) is just under a year. She is a sweety, very easy to pick up and cuddle. When she's not molting (which she currently is), she generally lays about 5 tiny cream-colored eggs per week. This would be a good breed for children because of their calm nature and small size. It should be noted that they can fly very well, so containing to a run without a roof/cover could be a challenge.

Pros: Good mommas, showbirds, pets and are curious & friendly
Cons: low egg # in winter, foot feathers require maintenance, good flyers
D'uccles completely captured my heart with 2 'impulse buy' porcelain chicks I bought at the feed store. I was impressed at how calm they were compared to the other chicks in the bin and they actually enjoyed being held carefully & snuggling. I went back for more 2 weeks later. After ending up with a few male d'uccles who were nice and liked being held and never mean, I decided this was the breed for me! Now I am actively raising a flock of d'uccles in 2 colors and trying to share with everyone how wonderful they are. I hope to promote the breed as much as I can and show every year to get the word out about my favorite bantam breed. I have learned the hens make good broodies and mommas without going broody 'all the time'. They lay really well for me except in the freezing winter months.
