This is a very good basic, intro to keeping chickens healthy. It was easy to read and makes a good reference book, especially for those fairly new to chickens.
I knew it was not terribly in-depth when I purchased it so I wasn't surprised that some details were missing. For example, we had to cull our first chicken shortly after getting this book. My husband (bless his heart!) volunteered to do the deed and went to the book to read up on the most humane way of doing so. The book said to "stun" the bird first but didn't explain how to do that (maybe we should have shown her a paycheck stub or read some of the daily news stories to her??). We also had an ill chicken to handle and while the book helped me diagnose what was wrong, I ended up going to the BYC forums to get all the details we needed.
All in all, I've been pleased with this book and would recommend it to others, if you're just beginning with chickens especially. I give the book 4.5 stars and .5 star for the bonuses I received for ordering the book from the BYC store (a 2015 calendar, bumper sticker, business cards and a 6 month Golden Feather Membership). Love the calendar and bumper sticker and it was fun to anonymously gift the membership to a couple of other members!
