Pros: Low maintenance, friendly ducks
Love our blue Swedish. We have two blue Swedish, two black, and two Pekins. Our Swedish are a little skittish, but I think only because we were so busy dealing with leg issues with the Pekins that we didn't handle them as much as ducklings. They are super easy, hardy, cold tolerant ducks and if I had to do it all again I would get all Swedish ducks.

Best soical duck breed I've had
Pros: Outgoing calm gentle likes human attention
Cons: Racist to other ducks not allowing new birds to join flock, territorial to other ducks
I love my swedish. I have a drake named cuddle quack I've taught to walk on a leash and be a therapy duck to kids and people in nursing homes. My ducks love attention and prefer humans than other ducks.

Ok , I’m looking for a duck breed (if the landlord agrees) and I’d like some more info on this one. How quiet is it? I’d like a laying hen or two, but if it’s too loud the city might make me give it away.

Ducks quack only when excited or agitated. A small flock of ducks shouldn't give the neighbors or city any cause for alarm. It isn't recommended to keep only one duck, however, as they are social birds and a lone duck would get depressed. Also if you only get two ducks and something were to happen to one, the other could die of a broken heart. Three to four ducks should still be pretty quiet. I have six (a combination of swedish and runners) and they make less noise than the neighbor's Shih Tzu!

I am looking to get 2 more blue swedish hens. I live in GA and I am having a hard time finding someone near me. I would like to purchase 2 juveniles if possible.

I noticed mine were very fearful as ducklings, but I handled em anyways because I had to catch them and put them up every night - we gave them run of a puppy enclosure by day and I had pretty much decided they were going to be like jack rabbits in the field, when suddenly, after they were full grown, they up and decided I was the bees knees. I got my honorary duck card. Weirdest thing. Now I have the most unique stories about duck trying to climb down the neck hole of my sweatshirt - with me in it and eating my hair, or ducky kisses leaving scrape marks on my nose. They were a full 6mo before they started getting friendly. Before that they ignored me or ran from me.
Mine seemed the same way! I thought they never would stop running from me!!

I am looking for a perfect duck breed (though every breed has its pros and cons) and I love the look of the Swedish Blues. Can anyone tell me a bit more about them? Mostly, I would like to know any cons that come with this breed.
I have raised this breed. The only cons that I am aware of is that being a "blue" they will not breed true. if you breed blue to a blue, you will got only 25% blue, 50% splash and 25% black, If i remember correctly. the only way to have 100% blue duckling is the breed the black and splash then you get 100% blues. other than that, the are quiet and fairly calm. Good (but not the best) layers. They don't cause some of the troubles that some other breeds do.

I live in Georgia too, I ordered them from Metzer farms, they arrived fine for me, however, things could change.
