Frizzle feathered fowl can be traced as far back as the 1600, from Africa to the Philippines. British/ Australian and New Zealand standard of perfection described Frizzles as a heavy breed of their own. The breed is described as having a single comb, clean legged, the size of a Plymouth Rock. They come in large fowl and bantams. In addition, Frizzles can also be a version of any recognised breed, such as frizzled Japanese, frizzled Cochin, etc...

Great Birds
Pros: Super sweet, cool to look at
Cons: None
I love my Frizzle Easter Egger! Our broody hen hatched 3 frizzles in her brood earlier this Summer, and they're all beautiful to look at. Frizzles have such unique feathers. Two of them were boys, but they were the sweetest chicks and don't mind being held. The girl, Marigold hasn't started laying yet but she is very friendly. I highly recommend this breed.

Pros: Sweet, loves to be talked to and will respond back. Very docile. Feathers are super soft.
I highly recommend this breed, especially the Bantam if you want a pet and a brood hen.

I have a black bantam Frizzle hen. She is the most docile hen that we have ever had. Her feathers are super soft. I call her Doodle Bug.

She comes when I call her name. The only one that does.
Pros: Unique and adorable looking. Sweet, soft personality, often shy.
Cons: They seem a bit more vulnerable (due to their quiet/shyness?)
I've had experience with a few frizzles, and have felt the same way about each of them. I love them! They are so sweet and shy...they seem to almost prefer isolate themselves (rather than fight into pecking order).

They are quiet, too (which further leads into my shyness description) Even my frizzle rooster sounds gentle when he crows. The hens love him. I love him. And he's great at returning all that love.

I really appreciate their uniqueness...The soft curls of their fluffy feathers... they win the very cutest chicken award, in my opinion!

Never a good idea to keep roosters together. Silkies don't stand a chance since their vision is obscured by crest and beard & are very susceptible to brain injury.

Silkies are very docile by nature and will often be beaten up and can be killed by others, its best to keep them by themselves ( as a group of silkies) or with other docile breeds ( some pekins, faverolles ) . Agreed with the above, never mix roosters unless they have grown up together or they will fight to the death.

I was excited to get some of these but unfortunately mine loose their feathers a lot...naked chickens most of the year...and other chickens - even the bantams- tend to pick on them.

I had a frizzle bantam once. She had an attitude let me tell you. She yell at me every night as I was locking down the coops. She'd wait for me at the gate and walk me to the coop talking the whole time. Unfortunately she died in a freak accident this year. I need to get another one, as it was one of the best birds we have had.

Got a pair of chicks frizzle to frizzle the rooster is super frizzled but the hen has not frizzle feathers. They are about 4 months old and can't wait for them to mature and hatch more chicks

The male possibly could be a frazzle if he's incredibly frizzled

So, I have one Frizzle hen. She's a year and a half old. She grew in all her feathers, was just a normal, pretty frizzle, but since then has been losing her feathers continuously and never grew them back. Has this happened to anyone else?
