Muscovies are the only domestic "ducks" that are not bred from the mallard. They are a wild South American species that has been domesticated. They are actually a "close cousin" to the duck. The muscovy being to the duck what a donkey is to a horse. Males are very large, and can weigh up to twelve pounds and females may reach eight pounds. They will lay 50-120 eggs a year.

Pros: Don't swim as much as other ducks.
aren't as messy as other ducks.
quiet compared to other ducks.
they're big size and good meat makes them excellent meat birds.
Cons: Some are capable of flight.
they are bullies to smaller birds.
they are hard to handle with their sharp claws, strength and size.
Good birds, very quiet but some females can fly.
the females make a quiet whimpering sound and they can make a quack like sound when stressed, drakes make a hissing sound and will usually bully or fight other drakes.
I'm giving them 4 stars because they are good birds but not for everybody.

Large so can be used for meat
I let mine roam around and they even sleep outside on the trees near my pond. Have had no deaths and have been raising them for a year
Entertaining
Cons: can be mean to ducks smaller than them
They are amazing animals. I leave mine outside and feed them a mix of corn, wheat, sunflower seeds, milo, and oats. They are beutiful ducks and are super quiet and alert. Cold hardy and can fly fairly well. I'm giving this review because they are amazing!

Pros: Quiet, EXTREMELY DOCILE, great temperament, cold hardy (to a point), friendly, fun to watch, do not require as much water as a mallard descendant duck would. Get along with every type of bird I've owned.
Cons: To docile to a point they do not defend themselves at all, still a duck so messy, gets water everywhere (which causes issues in winter)
The muscovy has been my first duck breed to ever own. I started hobby farming in june of last year. I have many different breeds of chickens and 2 muscovies and i can say with ease that the muscovies are my absolute favorite. I cant say i will never get another type of duck, but i will always have a few muscovies around. such docile and friendly birds! They dont find the need to be in water 24/7 like other ducks.

Just an update on my little ducks. we have about 40 eggs being incubated naturally by 2 hens. They are very excellent mothers so far. They are still very friendly to me when I am outside with them checking on the nests (they will let the chickens lay eggs in with them while they are sitting on their nests).
KWSRetMSgt, have you tried Craigslist? That is where I got mine. They were about a year old when I got them and I paid $2 per duck for them. If not, possibly visit a few poultry shows to see if anyone has any. After fairs is a great time to try to get some because people are getting rid of their animals because they do not want to care for them any longer. Sometimes you get good stock for very cheap or free.

Thank you PalmRoyal, for the info. Yes I've been looking on Cragslist, still haven't found what I'm looking for. I did find a hatchery out of Pa, that sells them. The funny part of this situation is, that hatchery is located about 43 miles from where I grew up back in Pa.

I double checked my info and the hatchery back in Pa, is actually only 28 miles from where I grew up. GO FIGURE !!

I don't like ducks much...but in my opinion, the Muscovy is more goose than duck.

When we butcher our pigs late fall, we are going to clean out the area for a bunch of Muscovies.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree with this review,muscovies are gorgeous and they don't poop much more than my chickens

I like your Muscovies they look nice I think there pretty mine have much worse caruncling then yours but I still think there cute.

I would freak out if shoved into a small space too. Get another kind of duck that will fit your needs and leave the King of Ducks to those who appreciate them! Good luck.
