Plastic 1 Quart Jar Feeder

1 Quart Plastic Feeder is constructed of heavy duty polyethylene. Base features 8 openings with...
Pros: Cheap, holds a lot of food,
Cons: chicks like to perch on it, they poop on it,
overall, i like it.
Pros: Holds a lot of food so if you're gone all day the chicks will have plenty of food.
Cons: Chicks constantly perch and poop on it. The bottom base gets full of poop and a lot of food gets wasted.
I like the bright colors of the bases and the large amount of food the feeder holds. BUT, every time I check on the chicks, one is perching on it and pooping on it, and it's not pleasant to fill the feeder up when it's covered in chicken turds, if you know what I mean..... Also they knock each other off of it and I'm afraid one will get hurt. I have yet to find the perfect feeder....

Pros: Cheap, good starter base feeder, can use a mayonnaise jar for top
Cons: Poop gets in if you don't have a jar on top, base separates too easily
I purchased this feeder from the local farm store when we bought our days old chicks. We did not buy the jar for it at the time, as the feed store lady said we really wouldn't need it. We found out later that a jar would have helped the poo from getting into the feed, but such is learning through example. The feeder consists of a top part with the feed holes in it, and the bottom part that holds the feed. This separates very easily, so we found we had to really make sure those two pieces were secured before filling. I did come to find out that a regular mayonnaise jar fit the base perfectly (we didn't have a mason jar) so that solved the poopy feed problem. This is great as a starter feeder- we just upgraded to a hanging feeder since the chicks are over 8 weeks old now and this feeder is getting too small for them. I'll still use it to put treats or grit in for when the chicks are adults, but the feeder is really small and probably is better suited for the chick stage. Again, it is a very cheap price so I am not complaining- it held the chick starter food just fine, and with a jar on top, I didn't have the poo problem that we did at first. If you do use a jar, be prepared to see the jar half-empty when you turn it over to fill the feeder- although this didn't bother us so much as we used the jar more for a poop shield anyway.

Pros: Keeps poop out, stays in feeder for the most part
Cons: Its impossible to have full food tray and full bottle. Kind of annoying.
I used the base with a mason jar, as my local place sold the base separately as an option. My chicks are 1 week to 4 weeks, and this has worked well. The only complaint is the jar top is kind of worthless, as as soon as you fill the jar and turn it over onto the base, the base fills up with 90% of the jar feed and the jar is empty. Easy to clean.
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Chicks perch on it, knock it over, top won't stay on and bottom piece broke.
Only good if you have baby chicks. When they learn to jump it's useless.
Pros: Cheap, Widely Available, Great for Young Birds and Small Flocks
Cons: Sometimes difficult to clean the inside of the holder
This is a great standard feeder. I use this type for chicks and younger birds. It holds a far amount of feed and the birds have no problems with it. Larger birds can easily knock it over though. If you have big hands, you can't scrub the inside of it, but just soak it in bleach water otherwise. Great staple on our farm. It also has LASTED!
Pros: good for the baby chickens , and good for small spaces.
This is a good feeder for baby chickens, it works good.

Pros: Good for little ones
It got us through the chickie stage. I've now repurposed it as an oyster shell dispenser. Useful then, and handy now. Plus, it's purple, which makes my daughter happy.
This is good for when the chicks are smaller and you only have a few of them. After a couple weeks they like to knock it over and perch on the top. I prefer the longer trough like ones.
Pros: Feeds the chicks
Cons: Waste
The chicks can spill the food. I think the openings are a little large. It might be nice to have one with smaller openings so they couldn't throw the feed from side to side as much.
They can jump on it and poop into the feeder.
I hung it up with duct tape and wire and the problems were reduced.
Wish there was a hanging variety. :D
Perfect for quail or baby chicks!

Pros: fits in small brooders
Cons: base separates
A readily available product that was useless because the two part base easily separated causing spillage and frustration. I glued the 2 pieces together and now I love it. Quick and easy to fill. Several fit in a large brooder to encourage eating. Easy to clean.

Pros: feeds eight chicks at the same time
Cons: always has bedding inside it
This feeder works very well for small chicks. It is made of strong and sturdy heavy weight plastic. I did replace the 1 quart 'plastic' jar with a mason glass jar for added weight to reduce chances of tipping over. Overall I am very happy with the product and price. It should hold up well through many years of use.

Pros: chicks cant poop in it, holds lots of food, very sturdy
Cons: bedding is always in it, chicks perch on it
I think this feeder is perfect for little chicks. I have the 8 little red sex
links at home that love to sleep by it but they have learned that it is not a
perch and to not sit on it but I am overall happy with it.
