I just gave them some scrambled eggs and also moved them into a larger coop, to hopefully reduce the pecking behavior before it gets ingrained. Here's better pics of three - are any of these hens?
Yes, I saw that bleeding, they just started pecking on him this morning! Which is what motivated me to post right now - if I can figure out the roosters 100% then I can move the extras out and hopefully less crowding will help, in addition to ointment treatments and extra protein for all.
Ordered 10 Swedish Flower + 4 CCL pullets from Bresse Farms. Got 13 chicks (*one was missing from order.)
2 look like Swedish, 1 looks like a CCL pullet. 7 look like these in the pics - barred wings, etc. Definitely not Swedish Flower, but numbers are wrong for the CCL hens, because I only...
Should start laying right at 6 months. Please go out before it gets too hot and get some new photos of them! Once they start laying and get the boy's attention he will "ruffle their feathers" ha ha - so I always try and get my "beauty shots" to document my girls right at 5 months old. You'll...
There's a place in Phoenix - I haven't been there for years but they used to sell these really amazing tarps in all kinds of sizes. Edges seamed, great quality, have lasted for years! It was this weird "hole in the wall" place off I-17 and sold all sorts of odd and ends - but had this IMMENSE...
Orpington do not work for this project, and I don't think they would work for improving Turkens to APA standards, either?
The tails are wrong, Orps have a "cushion tail".
The color is also wrong, they are solid Buff and the color that I'm looking for is "Buff Columbian" which is Buff with a...
I ordered some NN chicks from Privett Hatchery and several have "slate" legs. Out of the 20 Privett chicks, 12 were black. I kept the remaining 8 that were lighter colored and they adult plumage is coming in still but several do look Buff. It's unfortunate about the Slate legs. I am concerned...
I'm not from Arkansas (I'm from Arizona) but a few years back, I sent some project birds (called Alohas) to two different online friends located near Little Rock. There were regular and Naked Neck versions. Recently, two different folks from that area (one from Arkansas one from Southern MO)...
Check your APA club out for local stock first, in case you can buy quality stock from a show breeder nearby. If you don't have a local breeder, I would recommend buying shipped chicks over hatching eggs. Costs more up front but better results usually. Check out "Waltz's Ark" a breeder in...
FYI in terms of location, Alohas have been bred in Oregon, Arkansas, Kansas, and most recently Texas, and primarily Arizona. Some were sent to California years ago but did not really take off there. So if you are in one of the states listed, you may run into an Aloha. (If you live anywhere...
Here is a link to a photo I found online of an OEG Bantam. Check out the shape of her cheeks, the comb, etc. I think this looks very similar to the found hen:

The extra spotting is still Mottling - just a very...
Just saw this mention and came here to check it out!
No, she's not an Aloha, looks to be an Old Engish Game Bantam. She has the trademark "banty-ness" to her build. However, the early Alohas DID have a bit of Game blood in them - via several mixed breed hens that I found locally (in South...
Also I'm taking photos of a few of the adults - already sold off about 10 adult hens because I have so many nice young hens growing out. Here's a few adult hens that are still left here, I will be hatching out chicks and selling eggs from these for another month or so before the heat will shut...
Here are a couple of pics of some "teenagers" wandering my hard at the moment.
The best of about 40-ish chicks raised. Only about 3 months old. Still a long ways from seeing how they will turn out, and we still have the hot summer ahead, poor babies!
Chicks look fantastic!
HeChicken, would love to see more (current) photos of your own line - how are they looking this year? (Mottled chickens develop more white as they age, so curious to see how yours are looking.)
Are you going to hatch any chicks from your own stock this Spring to...
I think I could list Aloha and Aloha NN project eggs sometime next week if anyone's interested. Mottled large fowl, kind of like Swedish Flower but not really related to them at all. (They are about half Sussex bloodlines.)
I wanted to share that there is FINALLY a pair of what I would call "finished" Alohas!
Last year, I had a tragic incubator mishap that killed most of the eggs from my best breeder pens. I had to re-stock last minute with basically "whatever" eggs were left. So my own progress last year was...
