hello @maceleneo ! welcome to BYC :frow
what sort of chickens have you got? someone posted photos they took at a big poultry show in Italy, and a lot of the birds were stunning! and breeds we don't know or have here...
the old book on poultry keeping that I've been reading advises against setting eggs early in the year as it believes cocks are not particularly fertile yet.
that's very cool! made when Leibniz and Newton (amongst others) were active!
we are pummeled by storm after storm too; I'm amazed they've got any rain left in them by the time they get there, given the amount they dump on us first 🙃
the word invasion is quite emotive, indicating aggression/violence, unlike immigration, which just means migration into a country.
absolutely. And in anglophone societies, there is an obvious preference for other anglophone countries!
It is not often/only/usually because of invasion. For example, America is full of all sorts, including lots of Irish, not because they invaded, but because they left their homelands, for all sorts of reasons.
I have Swedish flowers, araucanas, Norfolk Greys, silver duckwing Welsumers, and Barbezieux. Those hatched last spring and summer are laying - though a few of them are hiding their eggs I know not where :barnie- while all but one of the adults are still resting. The one that went into moult...
I don't know about that but the birds are at least unconscious when killed. For me their living conditions are more of a concern - in commercial poultry sheds worldwide.
the law here for commercial operations is that any animal be stunned/unconscious before slaughter, but backyard keepers are left to their own devices I think.
I saw a TV show last week that featured a chicken plant in the Netherlands (which apparently supplies about 25% of UK consumption!)...
