We used to plan for 2 quail per person per meal, and we did a 40 egg hatch per month with a goal of getting at least 24 chicks to hatch/mature but if I had to do it again, I'd do a hatch of 60 every other month with a goal of 48 hatch/mature because hatches/brooding every month is a lot more...
Yup, and Craigslist, and FB Marketplace. Sketched me out a little so I thought I'd try here and see if I could find someone more reliable, and maybe someone I even knew from back in the day.
Super late to this thread but I also live in MN and had Coturnix outside for several years. The first couple of years I brought them in the house, but then I had too many to do that with so I got the Ware Double Decker Bunny Hutch and modified it - yanked all the wire out and replaced it with...
Howdy. I used to be fairly active on the forum breeding chickens but mostly Coturnix and Button quail. A tornado (the storm rather, not the actual twister) took out my coop and afterward I moved to a city that didn't allow "barn animals" including chickens and quail, and honestly it was just too...
It's been forever since I've been on this forum. I stopped raising birds when a tornado took out my Seramas and I moved to a city that didn't allow "barn animals" including chickens and quail. Currently have a new incubator and I'm looking to do a quail hatch. Looking for fertile hatching eggs...
Hi! My name is Spooky and I'm a quail addict. It started a few months ago with six "button quail" reportedly in three mating pairs. They turned out to be 6 Coturnix quail, 5 roos and a hen! I found homes for two of the roos, and went to pick up two more hens for the remaining roos.
I came home...
Hiya! I am still alive. Three and a half surgeries later.. with another one sometime in the next month.. Life is kind of crazy at the moment, and I'm still recovering and not on the computer much at all. Luckily, I have the good drugs.
When we last saw our heroine, she was recouperating from...

No, these were the ones before you. Yours are going out on Thursday I wanted to send a few more than six.
I think they were Shelley's - I offered to send some to her and didn't get her address, or deleted it. My PM's are being all sorts of wonky. I try to send an answer and it times...

Nothing today I called my post office and the main Minneapolis post office in case there was a routing error, and nobody's seen a package for me.
GPN, is there any hope that my swap partner has a tracking # on it?

To be fair, the reason they're indoors is because I got them in October It was too cold at that point to turn them into outdoor birds. We are building coops for them outdoors as soon as the snow melts and I can sink stakes into the ground.
The Seramas will always be indoor birds for...
I woke up to two eggs in Peaches' nestbox today She may have laid one yesterday - either she or Tenny was always in the nestbox so I couldn't see. I have no space in the 'bator yet, because I'm helping WiseChicks with a hatch. I'll probably pull 'em so they don't encourage her to go broody...
One hatched. It's black and white and came out of a brown egg, but it kicked the shell under the fan so I can't read it. Can't tell if it has fuzzy feet or not. So the pipping has begun!!

I candled last night and swapped 'em to my hatcher. A lot of them were scrambled Most of the small white eggs with 'BM' on them. I think there are only two-three left. There's movement in a bunch of the other eggs and all but one of the really big ones.
I'll keep you posted! I keep telling...
Yay!! The one I sent out arrived. *wipes off sweatbeads*
Which one was it? If it's in a brown box, it's the first I sent out. If it's a white box, it's the second.
Still have not received anything Hoping it arrives today or tomorrow.

Didn't you know that you big fellas have a stealth field?! My brothers are all huge and they manage to get underfoot all the time. How a 6'6, 350lb musclebound WALL can get under my feet has remained a mystery all my life.
So I put it down to the stealth field. Big like ox, sneaky like ninja...
