    OMG !! Pips!

So far, 1 blue Silkie. One died after a long night of trying to get out. But, there is a pip in one of the other eggs. The eggs are very dry so we are going really high on the humidity. Melody left the eggs so we ended up putting them in the incubator.

    OMG !! Pips!

My bantam cochin hen, utterly determined, hatched her first chick, a silkie/americauna "Cosmo Kirby" last Thursday. Soon after, she and the chick had the remainder of the eggs scattered everywhere. So we were constantly pushing them back under her and by Saturday, after she had stay put for a...

Many of you think I'm "mean.'' Here's my point of view....

Quote: I'm with Ducky. I did just give up my dog and she was placed immediately. I went from working 25 hours a week to working 65-70 hours. It could have never been anticipated (family business) and I have no choice. I thought it would be the best thing for Allegra; she needed people that...

    Fed up with water founts

I have 2 of them. You get used to the feel of threading it correctly after a while. I have mine sitting on top of 2 flat patio stones, this keeps the shavings out. Most of my guys are bantams and they don't have a problem with the height. If you put a cone on top, and can keep it on top, you...

Mixed breed chicks-good, bad or just unpredictable?

I was concerned about mixes, but I'll tell you, I'm so happy with the mixed babies we've allowed our broodies to hatch. I have a prettyy silkie/americauna pullet a silkie/cochin cockeral, and a pair of sebright/dutch. Why not? You never know what you'll get. I just have one question. Can a...

    New chicks coming this week!

So what are you getting? I just sold 5 of my americaunas and black stars and came home and placed an ideal order for 9 new babies. I figure 9 bantams (cochins, silkies, and d'uccles) should take up less room than those big girls, and I had way more eggs than I could use or share. And that one...

    Remember Candy from Your Childhood

Does anyone remember Heide's Chocolate Babies? Looking back it was kinda sick eating them, but we always got them at the drugstore with out allowance. Tasted like the end part of Indian corn, which I love but can only get around Halloween.

Well looks like I have another broody to put the eggs under!! Must be contagious! My white silkie has decided to sit on everyone's eggs. Out of 10 nesting boxes, the Americauna hens are getting in with her, and she's accepting their donations. And Binky has 6 beautiful babies!

    Broody questions...Help!!

1 hatched on Sunday morning, another had pipped that afternoon, and when I came home at 8:00 tonight, there were 5. She has been up for intervals, prior to the hatching, of course. I have the whole family in their tractor, so if dad can behave, I will probably keep them there. He has been very...

    Broody questions...Help!!

Hi, At day 22 patient weeks, my broody little Dutch hen has hatched out 5 of her six eggs. She looks exhausted. Well, silly me, I saw some eggs on Eggbid, hoping to continue. How long will a broody stay on her nest? Will I be pushing it to put those eggs (6) under her or should I put them in...
