Also, if a large hen and a Serama are eating and the large hen steps off, will the feeder close on the Seramas neck?

What breed lays the largest egg and also what breed lays the largest colored egg?

I might want to add another chick to the flock. My current flock lays smaller eggs. I would like some that are normal large eggs for baking.

    Comb pecked off

My large Ameraucana is pecking two of my Serama hens. (They have lived together about 4 years, this is new) One of them has hardly any comb left. I thought it was because of some kind of predator we've been having trouble with, but then I caught Millie doing it. Will the comb grow back? Do...

    Broodies: advice needed asap

So, I have a large old chair in the chicken room (yeah, chicken room...don't ask- another topic, as in broken coop outside) that I am trying to disassemble to get it out to the garbage. My white Silkie decided to brood on the chair in the fluff I took out of it. The Seramas were dutifully...

    I hate it when......

OK, Let's see what you all got. I'll start it off. I hate it when I back into a fly strip loaded with dead and dying flies. And have to do yoga to try to get it off....

    skunk habits

My garage door was open at the bottom about 2-3 inches. About 8:30pm I saw a furry thing squeezing itself under going into the garage. I saw some white by the tail and I'm assuming it was a skunk. I want to close the door all the way but I don't want to close it in the garage. I thought...

    foundation for coop?

I have a new coop ordered that is 6' x 8'. I am wondering if it would be better to put it on some kind of base rather that directly on the ground. If so, what kind of base is OK. Does it have to cover the whole area or can pressure treated wood be place on just the edges?

Do Welsummer chicks really grow much faster?

We bought a chick that we were told hatched 5/27. We later purchased a cream Legbar chick, hatched 6/2, and a cochin hatched 5/27. The welsummer is twice the size of both. The cochin was the same size as the legbar even though it was a week older I say was, because I found it dead this...

It is in the middle of a Pathway between the patio and the shed. The path is covered with small stones. Maybe snake? I put my foot there for size comparison.

    Snake ID please

It was next to my koi pond. It didn’t move when I “pet” it. But when I moved it’s tail it went into the pond and swam under a bridge. The chickens are safe but I hope it doesn’t eat fish. I’m thinking garter snake? It was about 2 -3 ft. I’ve only seen tiny ones before. I don’t know how big...

    hatching chick vanished

External pip last night with the chick peeping. This morning it was completely gone, no sign of chick, egg shell or blood. 3 Serama hens were faithfully sitting on the eggs like they were 1 body with 3 heads. This morning one was still glued to the other eggs and two had gone back to the...

    Laying while roosting

Has anyone had a hen lay while up on a roost overnight or very early in the am before coming down for the day? The roost is about 5' up. I have found my Ameracauna's egg on 2 separate occasions broken on the floor under the roost.
