Buff Orpington on breed x = sex link cross?

Howdy folks! The rooster circus continues . . . I wasn't able to keep the welsummer, he got kung-fu frisky with my elderly mother, so we had to rehome him. Now considering having her hand raise a Buff Orpington roo to make sure he is calm around her -- because the gals are suddenly INSANE with...

Angry Ayam Cemani Roo - remove from my breeding line or no?

Even older breeds have a lot of variety in their genetics for sure and throw up different flavored birds. I feel safer not breeding him! Thank you to all who read and another thank you to those who shared your wisdom!

Angry Ayam Cemani Roo - remove from my breeding line or no?

My impression from the other three AC is that they are unusually docile! I wonder if my mom somehow rubbed this guy (top roo) the wrong way and he is just a brave defender.

BCM hen x Welsummer roo outcome?

Thank you that is amazing information NatJ. These are Black Copper Marans I am sorry that I didn't clarify that, and I was thinking about switching to a sex link breed anyway so a sex link cross sounds great. Any info about the characteristics of the cross? Like they will likely be a...

Angry Ayam Cemani Roo - remove from my breeding line or no?

Thank you so much Bobbi-J, I feel the same way, really! I planned to not keep him once I have a few more birds, but I was going to hatch the next generation first. However, I have reservations about his genetics now and just wondering how heritable it is, if folks raising this breed could speak...

Angry Ayam Cemani Roo - remove from my breeding line or no?

Hello folks, I have a very small beginning of an Ayam Cemani flock (2 roos 2 hens) and one of the roos always attacks when I go in there. The other one doesn't bother me ever. I think the behavior is pretty ingrained at this point, and I can think of some reasons for his behavior, such as pen...

BCM hen x Welsummer roo outcome?

Hello folks I am wondering if anyone else has already done this cross and raised the offspring? I have a welsummer roo that I am sitting for a friend and wondering about hatching some eggs from my BCM ladies. I am a little leery of inventing chicken breeds after an experiment I did last year...

so on this cross I just hatched, I THINK that two are roos and I have marked them so I can see if it's true. They are having markedly longer tail feathers than the other peeps. Also longer wings. (Although not all of the ones I think may be girls have the tiny tiny wings.) They hatched on the...

what is their name in bulgarian? We can use google translate, they look beautiful but very deadly to chickens. Stoat? Mongoose? Does burying the wire at the bottom of the yard help at all? I always thought of chicken tractor as something to use during the day, but some ppl do put a little coop...

what are you planning to do with them? This is pretty off list so feel free to move the conversation elsewhere, but I'm so interested in learning from all of you these different ways of doing things. I thought this spring about raising broilers for myself but I will need a chest freezer first...

I think the room itself was too warm, so moving away from the light didn't drop their temp. I was so worried about them getting cold I had a space heater on. Living and learning here definitely! I have since fixed all the problems and things are much better! I will post an update shortly!

911 ok I feel like a total idiot and I'm officially losing it. Three of the best ones (lively, large, fluffy) died in the brooder, I think they got too hot??? I didn't even know that was something I needed to be careful of. Also none of the others are interested in eating or drinking. I'm not...

so here's an update, one ended up being a failed egg from a week ago that my weak candler didn't show, I had 1 drown in egg white, 2 that were not positioned right and pipped through elsewhere than the air bubble and I didn't know to assist them, so they died stuck in the shell. I did assist the...

Shrink wrapped chick What else can I do? HELP

I am having this problem also. It has been super nerve-wracking having to help some of them out.- the reading I did led me to think that if the temp is too low, development time frames and stages are altered slightly such that the chick can get too big for the egg, and be positioned wrong in the...
