We have cala lilies that grow in our chicken run. They never ate them before but have started eating them now. I see mixed things on the net. Does anyone know if they are poisonous to our girls? They obviously aren't super toxic because otherwise our girls would be dead, but even if they are...
HI y'all. One of my hens went broody a few days ago. I have two questions. And just for background, my hens are pets and I look at them in that light.
1. When she first went broody, she would get up in the morning and eat. I haven't seen her do that in the last 2 days. She may have done it...
Hi everyone. I posted a couple of weeks ago about a sick hen. Well, after some vet visits she's on the mend. I'm really happy. The vet said it would be a good idea to get a scale so I can weigh my live hens every month because weight loss is an easy way to see if a hen is getting sick before she...
Thanks. She just ate a few pecks of crumble feed and there were some leafy weeds around (the look kind of like broad leaf parsley) that I know they like and I fed her some of those and she ate them. I don't think they have much nutritional value but it's something.
Thanks. She didn't cough or anything when we put the medicine in so hopefully it didn't go down her trachea. But I will make sure tonight to put it in the side. I really appreciate your help.
The vet told me that. I don't think he did a swab. He prescribed Meloxidyl. (meloxicam) And no, he didn't say anything about the wrong hole. I'm sorry I'm so ignorant.
Thanks so much for asking. I just posted again. I brought her to the vet Friday. She was eating, drinking, and pooping fairly normally. The vet said she had a cold and gave me an anti inflammatory liquid to shoot into her mouth for 4 days. That was Friday night. She seems a little worse now...
I posted a couple of days ago. I thought my hen was egg bound, but she wasn't. We noticed she had some congestion when she was breathing so I brought her to the vet. She had been eating and drinking and pooping fairly normally. She just wasn't moving. The vet was going to X-ray her, but said...
I looked at some youtube videos. I think the "panting" I saw in her rear is a symptom of being egg bound. She's walking around now a little more, but I haven't been able to find anything like an egg that might have come out of her.
From what I've seen so far, epsom salt baths are the best...
I just saw her poop. It was runny and whitish yellowish. She's moving very little. I put some meal worms up to her and she ignored them. I have a call in with the vet.
She's only 2 and is normally very energetic. She follows me around. There is definitely something off. I just don't know what to do. I'm going to call a vet.
She came out of the coop but is just standing in one place. I didn't know what egg bound was but googled it. I don't think I have the expertise to either diagnose that for sure or massage the egg out of her if that's the problem. I should probably call a vet. I will try to keep her separated...
I don't know if she laid yesterday. She hasn't today. She also hasn't eaten or drunk anything today. It's hard to check one hen's poop. I will try to stay out there and see but there aren't any bloody poops or anything in the run. I did notice that when I checked on her, her back side (sorry, I...
Hi everyone. Normally all 4 of my hens bolt out the coop in the morning when I let them out. This morning one of my hens (2 years old) has stayed inside. I"m a new chicken owner and don't really know if this is cause for alarm or not. She looks normal to me. Her feathers look normal. I don't...
