Well this wasn’t easy… (Bumblefoot between toes)

I have a bird who’s had a noticeable bumblefoot lesion on her foot for a while now. It definitely pained her and she limped and laid down more often than not. When I first examined it, I found that the scab was in the cavity between her toes and slightly covered by the foot pad. If you can’t...

Hen has floppy comb and doesn't lay anymore

Give her an examination, check her feet for swelling or bumblefoot. Try and feel her crop and compare it to your healthy birds. Try giving her fluids to ensure hydration. You can add some electrolyte supplement too. I have a hen like this right now. She has bumblefoot and pain can often cause...

    Inverse Introductions

Don't use DE, its useless and dangerous. Your situation isn't as different as you think, and it's going to be pretty much the same especially if the Silkies are already an established flock with a pecking order. It doesn't matter that its reversed, it's the same process. What does your run...

    Crooked/twisted toe and swelling

I took my hen to the vet for bumblefoot that wouldn't stop swelling despite having been treated at home. They opened her back up and didn't find any infection left but sent her home with antibiotics (amoxicillin) and an anti-inflammatory (I'll check what it was later) for about two weeks. She...

I just can't wait to get help with it. It's driving me crazy to feel so weak all the time.

    We Quit Cigarettes

Since I've been sober I've been having such awful sleep issues. I wondered if anyone experienced the same or if the onset was just coincidental. I plan to see my doctor about it soon because it has such a negative impact on my quality of life. I fall asleep at random during conversations, while...

    Safety of oral antibiotic usage?

Vet prescribed pill form oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. I can't use a pill popper though because the pills won't fit. I'm figuring out some other way to do it, probably with scrambled egg or another popular snack.

    Safety of oral antibiotic usage?

Vet is closed until Monday so I just went ahead and removed the abccess again. It was mostly just scab and there wasn't much to pull out but I found a second lesion between two toes that I didn't even know was there. It was very small but I definitely pulled something out of that one. I treated...

    Safety of oral antibiotic usage?

I'm almost certain that I did. I only considered antibiotics to treat the swelling Yep, I've never had it come back after treating it so I guess I forgot to consider that possibility. Sounds like we'll be driving to the vet today. I know bumblefoot is easily treatable, but this hen is older...

    Safety of oral antibiotic usage?

My hen has had bumblefoot for a while now and though I’ve been treating it as I normally would, the swelling has not gone down. I may have to reopen the scab but I am worried more about the swelling and what that indicates. I’m using neosporin right now over the scab and bandaging her foot. I...

Pockets of air expanding when she breathes and possibly blind

She's pulled through after I helped her open her eyes gently. She drinks water strangely, barely dipping her beak (I helped her several times first), but at least she drinks it at all. I may add the electrolyte pack to it. It took a while to help her figure out how to eat but eventually we got...

    Sudden death and concern

Only a day. I'm still battling this pasty butt on my week old BJG. I'm so tired of it!

Pockets of air expanding when she breathes and possibly blind

I'm worried to put her in with the others if she continues to show no signs of sight. The first group is a week old but not too much bigger. My bantams may even be smaller than these new guys. The brooder is spacious but I'm still afraid she may be vulnerable to any of the older ones' harassment.

Pockets of air expanding when she breathes and possibly blind

It may be worth noting that their box came in pretty damaged. They all were okay but the package was beat up pretty bad. I'll upload pictures of that too.

Pockets of air expanding when she breathes and possibly blind

I just got a new order of chicks in because I suddenly lost two from my order last week. I just noticed that my Black Sumatra chick will not open her eyes at all. She can, because she has peeked them open one or twice but it seems as if she can't see at all. The area around her beak, "cheeks"...

    We Quit Cigarettes

Every single day is another win I truly appreciate the recognition in the effort it takes. A lot of people don't see that. Every single day I'm getting better The cravings are insane and debilitating sometimes. Being able to get through them takes so much out of me, but it proves to me that I...

    We Quit Cigarettes

Hey Quitters, I'd just like to run by here and say that I'm glad to have a thread like this here on BYC. Though my struggle hasn't been with cigarettes or nicotine, I am an addict in recovery and have been sober for just over a year now (January 4th 2023 is my sober date). Addiction really just...
