    Broody drake?!?!?!

So my white call duck drake (Carl) who is 2 years old has found a hen he really likes this season and he has not left her side!!! It started when she went broody and he constantly stood beside her and went with her everywhere, when I held her, he waited right there watching me!!! When she eats...

Yes that is true, if it hadn’t internally pipped then it might not be the best idea.

Small injury on gosling that hatched

So after looking at it more, it definetely was a prolapsed vent. And she is actually a he as I could see his genitals exposed. Thankfully I was able to clean the vent with some saline and with some gentle massages I was able to get it back in. I am not 100% sure what to do now but I’m going to...

Small injury on gosling that hatched

Yeah I’m going to do that. Right now it’s staying in the incubator so it stays moist and I’m going to work that back in

    Duck egg day 27

And you’re welcome! Hopefully the little duck makes it but it seems fine so far! The hole you made won’t be an issue and now the duckling will most likely just resume normal hatching

    Duck egg day 27

Just wondering but what do you mean they breath through the membrane? From what I’ve seen and heard they break a hole in the membrane so they can breath the air cell and then once they externally pip, breath through the hole. I’ve seen many people use Vaseline and it is a pretty common practice...

Small injury on gosling that hatched

Alright, yeah I will do that. It didn’t seem to be as prolapsed as I’ve seen some other goslings online but it definetely could be an issue if not fixed

Small injury on gosling that hatched

Yeah could be, and thank you I’m going to do my best, it’s a pretty small injury so I think it will end up being ok I’m just wondering if there’s anything that can be done in case it’s more serious than it looks (it’s a smaller injury than it looks in the picture)

Small injury on gosling that hatched

Unfortunately there is no poultry vets in my area. many people complain about this and have a lot of problems that can’t be brought to the vet because there is none. So far I’m thinking it might be an issue with the cloaca being enlarged and somewhat inside out, so I may see if the swelling...

    Duck egg day 27

So in my experience this isn’t really a big problem. Basically the reason you might not want to make the hole very big is because the egg will loose some moisture a bit faster than it should, causing the membrane to become a little tougher to break out due to loosing more moisture than usual...

Small injury on gosling that hatched

So this is my first time incubating goose eggs or having geese at all, unfortunately only 1 out of the 6 shipped Sebastopol goose eggs hatched but I ordered 2 other buff goslings to go with this one that will be here any day now. And for now I have some freshly hatched call ducklings or some...

Chicken canker sore (a little graphic)

Ok I will do this, my mother actually has been looking everywhere for this apparently. Will he have permanent damage?

Chicken canker sore (a little graphic)

So one of my mother’s roosters has had a canker sore most likely caused by trichomonosis. She has been treating with, Thyme oil, oregano, and poultry vetricyne. He’s a big guy and he usually is the top of the pecking order however recently his behavior has changed and gotten worse. He’s been...

    WARNING: Hoovers hatchery

I agree in a lot of scenarios however in this one I do believe Hoovers improperly packaged them as they had no heating and I’ve seen some birds sent with a grow gel type of thing and this was not included here. I decided to just buy some silkie eggs and hatch them myself and it has gone a lot...
