Weird pale egg from brown egg layers

Hi, All of my chickens are brown egg layers - australorps, red star, welsummer cross (olive Egger that ended up laying speckled brown instead of green), and I have one Whiting true blue who of course lays blue eggs. Today I went to collect eggs and found this weird, washed out egg that is...

Egg mystery - no colored eggs from WTB or olive egger?

It’s from earlier in summer. Bird in the back is the supposed green or olive Egger who is a Welsummer cross of some kind. I think she’s got the speckled eggs. The white one is a Whiting True Blue who isn’t laying blue eggs.

Egg mystery - no colored eggs from WTB or olive egger?

I am trying to solve an egg color mystery. I have a variety of brown egg layers in my flock of 7, but I also have what I think is some kind of Welsummer cross from an “assorted green layers” bin at a local feed store and a Whiting’s true blue from Murray McMurray hatchery. Both birds are in the...

Are all chickens wild and unruly or am I terrible at this? Won’t use coop! Jumping fence! Etc.

Thank you for the tips! I really did want a rooster. This one just had a bit too much attitude.

How many chickens on 1/8 of an acre?

So far there aren’t any areas that have been damaged by the chickens but we are river front and also have had a lot of rainfall this summer. There are trees in their pen and I’ve had to mow twice to keep the whole thing from becoming a jungle when they grasses get high.

How many chickens on 1/8 of an acre?

They aren’t strictly free range for feeding purposes, if that makes a difference. The bulk of their diet is still feed. So they aren’t depending on the space for food. Sorry, I’m still new to this.

How many chickens on 1/8 of an acre?

I’d like to get more chickens next year but I’m having trouble with the math. Our chickens are in a coop at night and roam a pen that is approximately 1/8 of an acre during the day. That comes out to (according to a calculator…I’m terrible at math) about 5445 square feet of space. At 10 square...

Are all chickens wild and unruly or am I terrible at this? Won’t use coop! Jumping fence! Etc.

They’re about 20 weeks old. The rooster had to make a trip to the butcher, unfortunately, because he was getting nasty with the ducks. As far as we know, all the ducks are female so I don’t think they were going after the chickens.

I have a mix…austrolorps, an Orpington, a red star, a couple olive eggers.

Are all chickens wild and unruly or am I terrible at this? Won’t use coop! Jumping fence! Etc.

First year keeping chickens. They’re cooped at night and free range in a penned section of my yard during the day. My chickens were lovely the first month they were in the coop, put themselves to bed every night, until one day I accidentally shut all the coop doors and the rooster we ended up...

How to keep the duck coop clean!

I love these ideas, especially the litter boxes! Where do you get the pine pellets? Like for wood burning stoves? We used to use them for ferret litter for the same reason when I kept ferrets!

How to keep the duck coop clean!

Yes, for night time. Totally agree…we have already had to make modifications to the wire and door to make it more secure. My well-meaning cattle dog has been breaking in to show us all its weaknesses. 😑 I’ll try bedding and daily cleaning. Thank you!

How to keep the duck coop clean!

Just for night time, so I’ll try the shavings, thanks! It does have a top tarp. Does it matter which sides I tarp?

How to keep the duck coop clean!

6 ducks, 2 geese. I think the pen is 6’x9’ and they will be free ranging part time as of next week. Would you recommend keeping their food and water outside once they’re allowed out during the day?

How to keep the duck coop clean!

Hi everyone, first time posting and first time chicken/duck/goose owner. We recently moved all our birds to their coops - chickens in one, waterfowl in the other. Chicken coop is a traditional coop. The coop I'm housing the ducks and geese in is like this and we had to make a few modifications...
