How to get rid of Yellowjackets?

Can you say what brand and strength you buy, please? I assume you have it for the garden?

How to get rid of Yellowjackets?

Appreciate the info on yellow jackets with chickens, and on neem oil. I have a homemade ointment for punctures, stings, ant bites ( including fire ant), mosquito bites. Works wonders. We used to buy Apiscare Ointment by Dolisos. Boiron bought Dolisos out and discontinued. A friend used up...

How to get rid of Yellowjackets?

"Run Away! Run Away!" 😁 Admittedly, this is our method for wasp nests that are in the open on porch and house eaves where the poison will be extremely localized. At dusk. And making sure of our escape path before spraying! We only used the shopvac method on the nest that yellow jackets...

How to get rid of Yellowjackets?

Sorry I didn't see this before, and need to read the rest of the thread after my post. At first, just blowing the insects away seems attractive. No killing of insects. ( Are yellow jackets at all beneficial? Dangerous to have around a home, though.) Second thoughts: ...Would the ones still...

How to get rid of Yellowjackets?

YES. A variation on this... Use a mich longer hose ( we duck-taped about 20ft long out of large diameter pvc pipe and black drainage field line ). Vac can sit way away so noise doesn't bother the nest or chickens. Vac hose taped or wired near nest opening where you see them coming in and out...

    Chicken Coop Do's and Don'ts

We've been at this since first of the year so I can only give the perspective of a few months. We quickly decided: We love our girls! Food and water dispensers on the coop floor are a mess. Soon as we finished our secure and covered wire run adjacent to the coop, we got all water and food...

    Poop boards....

This would be interesting. I can get Zeosand in North Alabama from a local pool supply store, it's on sale now 15% off, $38.24US for 50lbs pickup at store. ( I see it's also in GA, not sure where else this place has stores.)...

    Wire shelving and feet?

Btw, re flies, we were assuming the long-left poop would be covered with PDZ.

    Wire shelving and feet?

Flies!? Oh my. Much eludes me. Ty for all the answers! I guess we'll try a simple shallow platform with the PDZ first, see how my family gets along with the task. ( We've never tended cat litter boxes. Dog person here. And now, chicken person. lol) If it weren't for chicken's heat...

    Wire shelving and feet?

I just saw mention that someone keeps a shaker (an old parmesan cheese bottle) of the Sweet PDZ or whatever it is -- to just shake a bit on top of the poop between scoops. My family might be more inclined to do that daily, when collecting eggs.

    Wire shelving and feet?

Appreciate everyone's evaluation of the idea - that's why I posted. I don't have enough experience yet with chickens to evaluate ideas on my own. I found the original thread with photo of their "poop-thru Roost" as they call it...

    Wire shelving and feet?

Do you think the grate idea would be extra work? I saw a post here with an old coop -- it had a wooden horizontal grate that stretched across under the roosts, and underneath the grate the floor was closed off from the chickens and the whole area was cleaned out less often... I'm thinking...

    Wire shelving and feet?

Can chicken feet walk on wire shelving? Closetmaid type stuff? Thinking of putting a grate over a poop board and that would be an easy quick install...

Attaching hardware cloth to wood with stapler gun?

That should read "We ordered...." Since I'm here, the clips are at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B54D9BKQ

Food & Water In Coop & Run?

I guess we need to think about covering access to food at night for now, in case of mice and to not attract other critters. The courtyard is meant to be a feeding/watering/scratching food court, as well as extra square feet. I guess we could get two PVC caps, and cover the vertical food...

Food & Water In Coop & Run?

Thanks. Should I be concerned that I'm told (by someone else in the family) they don't think every one of the birds has learned to use the newer "cup-type" dispensers? (The ones with the red cup and yellow valve they are supposed to peck at down in the cup.) Seems there would be some sign of...

Food & Water In Coop & Run?

Question: Adding onto this thread if you don't mind. We've been confining the chickens to the coop at night, as we weren't 100% sure of our predator precautions on the attached "secure" courtyard. (The apron is mostly finished but there's one place where a tree has roots right outside the...

Attaching hardware cloth to wood with stapler gun?

So glad I asked. I didn't know if those of you talking about pneumatic staplers were talking about the crown staples -- I think some of those actually have glue on them and stick like a ring shank nail -- or a more normal construction version of a home staple, like the T50's, also driveable by...

Attaching hardware cloth to wood with stapler gun?

That is truly terrifying for chickens and for me watching. I will show it to my family who have not imo always taken my forewarnings about predators as seriously as I would like. The music makes it even more effective - kudo's to whoever condensed that video down and shared it with us.

Attaching hardware cloth to wood with stapler gun?

Sometimes in this conversation, I am only guessing whether a person is talking about staples or whether they are talking about heavy duty ROMEX staples or something else. Here's my understanding. Your terminology might be different.
