Official BYC Poll: Do You Wear a Mask or Respirator When Cleaning Your Coop?

This is my first flock of 15 girls. They just turned 1 year old last week. I have been ill with respiratory issues for at least 6 months. I did not take precautions in the beginning and learned along the way that their coop was poorly ventilated. I corrected the ventilation in December before...

Getting over Respiratory Illness & Possibly Changing to Sand from DLM

Hello All First year and first winter in wet old Washington state with my 15 girls. I have been using the deep little method ever since they moved into their coop 6 months ago. On average I tidy their 6x10 coop once a week. Their run is 25'x45', fenced and bird net covered. I started out with...

Possibly a respiratory infection in my flock. Antibiotic recommendation?

I have 12, 7 week old chicks. 4 are australorp, 4 are sex link, 2 are buff and 2 are delawares. One of my delawares has been sneezing an awful lot (maybe 2 times a minute) and the others only occasionally. But there is random diarrhea off and on in the group. Everyone is eating like healthy...

Rehoming - Rainier, WA - Black Australorp Roo

He is a good good boy that loves scrambled eggs and to sit on your shoulder. He is still skidish about hands and being picked up but I am working on that (as you can see from the first photo). He deserves a good home with his pick of ladies. NO FREEZER CAMPS. I am willing to drive him to any...

    Floor coating options

Hey there Molon! I am in the same boat current as you and wanted to see if you made a decision on your flooring? I am in the waterproofing industry and know the dangers all of their material data sheets say. I have been going around and around trying to make the best decision for my girls and i...

Rooster or Hen? Thoughts on de-sexing?

This is exactly what i needed to hear. Thank you so much ThreeChicks. He (April O'Neil :) ) deserves to be himself and culling will never be on the table with me. I did not have a "rooster plan" in place and this was my own fault. I will make sure to find a home that is prepared to offer him...

Rooster or Hen? Thoughts on de-sexing?

100% My first choice is for him to be who he was born to be on a free range farm with 100 hens for his choosing. I have a post out in my neighborhood app for rehoming but I am just looking for options if I am not able to rehome. Also, no one has officially said, rooster or hen yet? :)

Rooster or Hen? Thoughts on de-sexing?

Thank you BastyPutt. I do not doubt that I have accidentally eaten a fertile egg in my lifetime. I was also not born a vegetarian. I became one by choice and am now choosing to raise my own chickens to ensure I do not eat fertilized eggs.

Rooster or Hen? Thoughts on de-sexing?

Hello All! First of all, THANK YOU for this forum! Im new this year to backyard chickens and even though I tried to make sure to get only pullets, I think 1 male squeaked through. Can you please help me identify? Also, if he is indeed a rooster, I would like to know your thoughts about...
