8 week old- help with breed identification and if one of them is a cockerel

I have some pullets that look exactly like that. I hatched them from a barred crested olive egger hen and a Splash Marans rooster, which I believe passes the blue gene. If yours both come from the barred crested olive egger like mine and a non barred rooster, boys would have barring. I see one...

    Boy or girl???

Both males. I gave them away a while back.

    Adding a rooster

I wouldn't introduce him at night. At least with my flock, they're all jockeying for their spot on the roost boards. Just do it during the day.

    Adding a rooster

You can put him in something like a wire cage and put it amongst the hens for a few hours or a day so they can get acquainted. Or just throw him in. Some won't agree with me, but I usually just throw new birds in and let nature do what it does. Theyre gonna establish the pecking order...

    Splash Marans over....... ??????

Thank you. One more question.... would you guess the father is the splash rooster since the chick has shades of grey, or the olive egger? From the same hatch, I got a female from that same welbar, and it is mostly dark black. Both roosters have been getting frisky with that welbar hen.

    Splash Marans over....... ??????

Ya, I'm just wondering why there is no barring. I could be wrong, but I've heard females can sometimes have a small spot, and males a larger one. I'm definitely not an expert in the subject though.

    Splash Marans over....... ??????

I believe he started with Ameraucana bred back to Black Copper Marans for a few generations after that.

    Splash Marans over....... ??????

Update! They hatched last night and this morning. The first two pics are from the splash marans rooster with my silver leghorn. The last two are from my Welbar hen, but I'm not sure if the splash rooster is the father, or if it's from my F4 Olive egger. Does that tiny dot on the head mean it's a...

He does have a hint of gold and even a very small red spot you can't see in this picture.

    Splash Marans over....... ??????

I read somewhere that if you breed a particular rooster to a white leghorn, or a silver leghorn, that the offspring will come out the same. Seems fishy to me, but that's why I'm asking around.

    Splash Marans over....... ??????

What will I get breeding my Splash Marans rooster over a Silver Leghorn and my Welbar? I'm pretty sure the Welbar chicks will be sexed at birth due to the barring, but I don't think Welbars have black or blue in their color. So how will that react with a Splash Marans? Also curious about...

    Roosters?

    Thanks!

    Roosters?

Half the people say definitely cockerals, the other half say definitely pullets. I guess I'll have to wait til they either start to crow, or lay an egg! 😆

    Roosters?

Final update..... I put them in with the big chickens and roosters and the roosters are trying to get busy with both of them. I guess that settles it. They must be females!

    Roosters?

Update! Now they are 2 months old. I tried to get pictures of their feathers since I was told that's a way to tell at this age. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Barred boys, or girls? 1 week old.

Great to know. I'm just going off of what the lady I got the rooster from told me. You make great points.

Barred boys, or girls? 1 week old.

UPDATE! 1 day later, and the one I have suspected might be a female sure looks like a female according to feather sexing. It has what appears to be 2 rows of wing feathers and obvious tale feathers. The other two have neither. Also, the spot on the head is much bigger and more pronounced. Kind...
