This sounds like a temperature problem...Excessive temps can cause late stage , in egg death....My suggestion is turn the heat down....Many ranchers run machines at 97.5 f....I personally run mine at 96.8 and 15 %humidity...This causes chicks to hatch a little later but I do not have as much...
Thanks !.. If You are in Santa Clarita , We are neighbors.....Come on up to Lake Hughes and we'll talk about ostrich, chickens or any other type of bird you can think of ...I've raised most of them.
Hello....With the info you are providing, I would think you have an excellent shot at making it go...Keep the actual number of birds fairly low, run trios or quads and DO show the birds off to the public....They sell themselves and giving the opportunity for the public to view them will reap...
We agree except as to feed...If horses eat most pellets that are fed to emu, foundering most likely will occur to the horses.......I'd be very careful....
Just noticed this post....Sorry for the late reply.....Probably not the best idea as if the big birds step on them its over....Have had some of our free range chickens get in paddocks with no problems but it was incidental and not planned....I would not chance it ...Ostrich are not emu.....Being...
I cannot speak as to the validity of this but it could be true.....These birds being poultry makes them very different from the others....Their meat is very mild and red in color....Most folks who try it are impressed...
I'm not sure as to the size but being that ostrich eggs are 18 t036 times the size of chickens that sounds about right...big, green and beautiful, an Emu egg Has to taste great !
Correct....Ostrich are the largest living birds and their meat is wonderful.....Has very little fat and is very mild in taste....They are a wonderful and unique animal that is different than all others ....The look on a child's face when they walk up and look at an ostrich is priceless...
You are most welcome...Any other questions you might have, Please feel free to ask....As for the photos, I would love to post but being an old "goat" , I am not to computer savey....Will get with my grand daughter and see if she can teach me !!!....Thanks for your interest and kindness..
We used to sell them thru Whole foods etc...Get them from ranchers or a fancier......They are a little "wateryer" as they are 1/3 less fat and cholesterol....Also a little sweeter....The are way less "strong" tasting than duck eggs.....
Ok ...Here is one for you to contemplate.....What to do for something a little different for Thanksgiving....How about a deviled egg made from the egg of the worlds largest Bird !!...Thats right . AN ostrich deviled egg.....Get an Ostrich egg, boil it for 2 hours , then let it cool...Might let...
We have 3 young ostrich for sale...3months old, un-sexed, as run...We were keeping them for brood stock but have decided to retire....Perfect genetics, come from very heavy laying hens, over 100 eggs per year....Please private message me here on BYC......Thanks for your time.
Yes ! We have sold over 400 for food this season...They are a little sweeter than chicken eggs and a little more liquid because they are 1/3 less fat and cholesterol than chickens....Much better for us....They are highly prized by pastry chefs as they make all baked things lighter and...
