Sorry to revive an old thread but how did the chick make out in the end? Just had a similar thing happen with one of my chicks. It seems perfectly healthy otherwise. The chick is two weeks old today.
Old thread but in case anyone else goes searching for Bimectin… I just wanted to mention that my vet recommended to go with this when I mentioned it was only this or pour-over cattle ivermectin available at the local feed store. She said to apply it topically on the back of the neck with a...
Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. Our run on the other hand is 2400 sqft so the flock has plenty of room during the day. If I put mom and babies (and potentially dad) into the partitioned area they wouldn’t have access to outside right away unless I leave the gate open.
I really appreciate...
Oh and our coop is 12x16 with a storage area so the coop area itself is around 12x12 I believe. I have a partition in there from introducing the new flock that is around 4x12 that I would be putting them in with mom and dad when we do take them out there.
Yes! That’s the size of the crate. Should I give them the full space at this point or leave it at half or so?
She was incubating in a nesting box in the coop but I moved her to the crate in the house after the first two hatched where the nesting box is too high off the floor for chicks. We...
They are in an XL dog crate. I opened it up more for them because she had started this behaviour but then I cut it down to half because the new chick was trying to chase her around and I thought maybe it was too much room for them. Didn’t want the tiny new peep to get too cold either.
This is...
I had a staggered hatch over the past week. First baby hatched last Friday and the last one hatched through the night last night (it’s now Friday). Mother (silkie showgirl) seems to be a bit agitated. The behaviour comes and goes. She’ll be furiously digging around in the pen and the new peep...
Thanks guys! She’s settled down now thankfully. Having a blanket darken the pen a bit and putting down the blinds seems to have done the trick. I also added a cardboard partition in the pen to sequester her and everyone to one corner of the pen so she doesn’t have much room to move around even...
So we have had quite a staggered hatch. First one hatched last Friday, #2 on Saturday, #3 on Monday, and #4 on Tuesday. Mom is a Silkie Showgirl and she has been incredible through it all, however today she has decided that it is time to teach the others how to scratch and has been getting up...
I noticed that one of our hen’s eggs has either pipped or had an accident. I’m unsure whether to remove the egg or not where there is this dried green liquid on it. There is no smell or sounds coming from the egg.
I called the veterinary hospital and reception couldn’t get in contact with...
