I have seven laying hens that need a new home. They are all right about a year old and are good layers. One of them lays a brown egg. One lays a giant white egg. The rest are all just normal white egg layers.

Initially I thought this chicken was a rooster. I got him (?) and his sister as chicks and posted up photos of them as little guys to this board to ask about gender. Everyone agreed that the dark one was a rooster and the white one a hen. Well Now he is all grown up and I have 10 chickens total...

Any ideas? I sure can't tell them apart. They are about 5 wks here I think.
They are a little bald on their back end, they had some new feathers coming in and my leghorns were picking at them.
I am curious about something. How many breeding pairs on average do hatcheries keep? When you order chicks, what is the general number of brothers/sisters do you get? Since chicks don't tend to have pedigrees this is a question that has been on my mind lately. How do you know if you are breeding...
I got some straight run chicks and so far have turned out with 50% hens to roos ratio, which I am pretty happy with. That gives me the number of hens I aimed for from the beginning. My dilemma now is which rooster to keep. I live in town so it may very well just depend on how loud any of them...
Hi All
I need to rehome my rooster chicks. I have two that I think are Silver Leghorns ($5/ea).
I also have five Hamburgs and I am not for sure on their gender yet.
They are all a month old approx. and came from Duane Urch. Thanks for looking. I am in SE WA state.
My guess is two of each but would love the feedback of those more experienced than I!
Chick A - my guess a roo
Chick B - my guess a pullet
Chick C - my guess a ROO (already acts like one)
Chick D - my guess a pullet
I am thinking I have one of each here but would like to hear feedback now that they are a little older...
First two are Gladys
Second two are my question, used to be Ida Mae, now may have a name change to Ida Roo!
Well shoot, last week I thought for sure I had two female Salmon Faverolles. Now it looks like one is getting some black feathering. What do you guys think? Do I have two hens or a hen and a roo?
Thanks!
At what age can you start to tell gender on the Hamburgs? I have five golden-spangled. If 3 weeks is not too early I can start taking pics and posting them but if they are still too young I can wait.
Last night I looked in on my chicks and noticed my little Polish had a bald, red spot about the size of a dime on its back. This chick is only about 2 1/2 wks old. So I pulled it out and put it in with some different chicks and that little colony seems to be doing well today.
I looked in on...
