These are pictures of them from just last week but they're not the best because it was cold and wet out, lol. I kept 3 of the Mottled English Orpingtons, 2 Lavander Mottled and 1 Black Mottled. We ended up with 1 lavender cockerel and the other 2 are pullets!
These little backyard mix babies started hatching last night and hatched allll through the night again, lol. This officially concludes my hatching season for the year! I haven't even counted the chicks that just finished hatching but this was my 20th hatch this year and I believe I'm right at...
🤔 I've hatched CCLs multiple times but I can't say I've ever had one so undecided before. My pullets have always been dark and the cockerels light, so I would initially think cockerel but that one looks a different shade than the others entirely. I wonder if there was a wandering Rooster? I've...
You can wait an extra day to put them in but you could easily hatch them in the same incubator without waiting as well. 24 hours isn't going to make a big difference in the hatch. Just stop turning all of the eggs early. You can stop turning as early as day 14 with no detrimental effects.
Yep, if it's internally pipped then you really don't have anything to worry about! It's just a matter of waiting at this point. :fl
I use antibiotic ointment without pain relief to moisten the membrane when assisting now because it lasts soooo much longer without needing to be reapplied.
Keep an eye on the chicks hatching in the NR360, they can get stuck on the turner if you don't take it out for hatch. Not a crazy issue when you're there to move them a little when necessary but it is much easier to just pull up on the turner leaving the eggs in place for lockdown and hatch...
I use tissue paper for that very reason! Lol, easy to swap out if an accident happens. To date, the funniest photoshoot I've done was trying to take a picture of a quail chick in a spoon...there were so many pictures where it hopped right out of the spoon and then I finally snapped an image...
I finally got around to taking some pictures of the Mottled English Orpington chicks today! I believe I have 4 Lavender Mottled and 4 Black Mottled, no Chocolate Mottled so I should definitely try again, right?! lol...in the Spring.
I really thought I was done with broody hens this year. I mean, who would want to go broody in 90-100 degree weather? ...I have 3 more broodies 🤦♀️. I can't keep up with these girls and I've hatched over 150 chicks this year. Lol
If I can draw, ANYONE can draw, I promise, lol. You just have to keep practicing. My husband is one of those artists that excels at every medium the first time he touches it, I am not. lol, I have to really work at it.
All of the English Orpingtons have officially finished hatching! I think I jinxed myself last night when I said, "finally a hatch that isn't going to keep me up all night." because of course the very last chick didn't hatch until like 5am. lol
I'll get some cute pictures once they're all fluffed...
