I do dry hatches in the NR360 as well. I've never had it beep at humidity, and I let the humidity sit between 25% and 35% for the first 90% of the hatch. I've heard it beep once before, as a warning to low temperature though.
I’ll give one final update. Sold 6 of the chicks I hatched today, and am left with 4 keepers(mostly because I don’t see how i’m gonna ever be able to sell a single chick at once). 3 red BC, and one mixed chick.
Oh yeah, the black mixed chick has also been named. Philberta, a wonderful mix of...
Yes, but it didn’t even have a visible air cell. I candled a few of the eggs a day before they hatched, and the ones that successfully hatched did have air cells visible, save for a dark spot or two where I thought they’d internally pipped. This one has no air cell, so i’m just wondering if it...
I have some questions about failed eggs. Just checked the 3 unhatched because they hadn’t pipped; one was half-formed, the second had veins and didn’t appear to make it to maturity.
The last cell was wholly dark. Like; didn’t even have an air cell. Does this mean the chick had internally...
Thanks. I’ve heard feather sexing only works on birds bred specifically for that though, production breeds typically, so i’m unsure if it will be successful on my birds. I’ll check though.
I ended up with 10/13 eggs hatched. I put my birds in a brooder and I think i’m going to attempt vent-sexing later, after I watch a few videos to see what exactly it is i’m looking for. The last 3 eggs are still in the incubator, just to have a few more days to potentially hatch, before they get...
9 chicks hatched out of 13.
The 2 black
one partridge or deep red-looking chick
and 6 pale red chicks. I’ll update once they finish hatching and when I potentially sell some.
Had a red chick hatch.
This guy was definitely fathered by two BCs. Has feathering extending to the middle toe whereas the mixed chicks has feathering that halts at their outer toes. They’re all the same size right now, I assume because they all hatched out of bantam eggs.
:barnie
So.. First two chicks hatched from my red bantam cochin eggs…
They are not red. My bantams and LF ran together maybe a week or two before setting the eggs, one of my LF roosters sired the two hatched chicks. Both are black and one has the headspot of barring, highly disappointing. On...
I haven’t been here in a bit. Oops. Sold all my hatched turkeys, set my ducklings for sale, the hatched chicks got given away, and my BC eggs should hatch within the next 3 days. I just set 3 new hatched but I can update those in the February thread.
I’ve set my turkey and duck eggs on lockdown. A total of 8 turkey(100%) and 6 duck eggs(42%) made it to lockdown. 3 days till hatch, unless they hatch early.
I will candle my Red BC eggs later today, they’re 5 days into incubation. Candled one out of curiosity earlier and it had a visible...
First chicken egg has hatched, and turkey + duck are 6 days from hatch. I presume the chick hatched is from my easter egger rooster and one of my rhode island red hens(brown eggs, appears to have peacomb.. may be wrong though)Still hoping I get my promised bantams to hatch:mad:
I just set 13 red BC eggs on my incubator. I believe I may get one more egg laid later today, in which case i’ll put it on as well for a total of 14 eggs. This is more than I usually do in one hatch, but it should be okay. Set the timer to 21 days, yay for bantam chicks!
I'm no expert but I don't think it's weird. That's how all my incubations start; a dark spot on one side that stays still before spreading to darken the whole egg. I actually count early eggs that move or drift as potential dead ones, because as far as i've been told, it's bad? I can't remember...
I went ahead and candled my turkey + duck eggs which are 11 days from hatching. 8 turkey and 14 duck eggs in total. Of those numbers, all turkey eggs were good and growing!:celebrate 8/14 duck eggs showed no signs of growth or even fertilization though, so I went ahead and removed them to toss...
I second this. “Recently” as in october hatched eggs from a at-the-time 10 month old pullet and 8/8 eggs hatched, plus all chicks have been healthy and growing amazing. I’ve got a few pullet eggs on the incubator right now I believe, 3 bantam eggs(10 month old pullets) and probably some eggs...
The chicken eggs my family’s set are 5 days from hatch so will get upped humidity and go on lockdown tomorrow. Today, I candled them and surprisingly ALL of the maybe.. 20+? eggs looked good. Some were a little veiny, but were actively moving so I counted them as “good”.
What i’m curious about...
It’s quite alright. I already have 14 or so ducklings are the moment who are struggling to be sold. A poor hatch rate on this hatch of ducks(which I didn’t even want to hatch) is kind of appreciated. I am excited for thé turkeys though!
Congrats on this! Hope you get plenty of chicks!
