I love seeing everyones chicks grown up in here! From adorable fluffballs to beautiful BIRDS!
I sold almost all of my March pullets, and most of my purebred cockerels as well (Mutt cockerels stay with me in a bachelor flock)
Here’s my last Isabella Leghorn from March 7/8 hatch that I just...
I finally got three “pure” Wyandottes! They’re SLW/GLW, so not exactly ideal genetics, but if they’re pullets I can still sell them for a premium 👍 5 of these eggs were from my GLW collected over the course of a week - you can see that she was busy with BOTH of my cockerels 😂 two yellow babies...
So, I have 7 eggs set on March 11 (technically due April 1) and they went into lockdown today, but one was already externally pipped on day 18! Still in the egg turner, yikes. So, I guess that baby still belongs to this hatchalong lol. This will be my final hatch until my colored layers start...
3/4 babies from last night are rose comb naked necks! Lol I’m excited, I adore their moms so much. The other is just a Bresse. There’s still 1 egg in the incubator, from my GLW but I have a feeling it will be half Bresse 😏 she hangs around him more than the SLW boy.
One of my day 20 eggs just hatched, and it’s finally a naked neck! A SLW/NN at that lol, this baby is going to be a weirdo for sure. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see it fluffed up. Looks to be just yellow for now
Unfortunately, I didn’t really check how long it took. It probably would have been better to take it out and cull it traditionally, but my son was with me at the time. I don’t cull anything in front of him if I can help it, as he’s only 4 and I don’t want him getting any ideas…
Don’t listen to me or take any advice from me, lmao you have to follow your own heart, but…curiosity always gets to me, and idk if I would necessarily help it hatch, but I’d be inclined to open it up a little and see what’s going on. I did this during my February hatch - I heard peeping, and...
Ah dang…only 4/5 total this time. I candled for movement and internal pip on the egg that didn’t show any progress, nada. Turns out the poor thing was badly malpositioned and DIS. Hate to see it, as it was moving earlier this morning 🥺 I know it’s technically only day 21, but I can feel when...
Duckies!!! I’m so happy for all of you hatching ducklings 🥹 they’re just the cutest!! Chicks can hatch out and look sassy as heck right out of the egg, but ducklings just look so sweet and innocent
4/5 pips, day 20. They pipped right after I posted earlier! Should have some more chickies tonight. Looks like it’s going to be a busy hatching weekend for a lot of us!
4/4 yellow fluffs hatched, and another 5 are in lockdown for a hatch tomorrow. I’m not surprised they’re all at least part, or pure, Bresse, because I tried to mainly set eggs from my Bresse pullets. I hope in the next couple hatches I can get a NN or two, because I’m starting to recognize who...
Technically day 21(in Europe) I just had one hatch right after midnight (first thing it did was wake up my kids, thanks little screaming bird) so these babies are on time. They’re from my own flock, so no shipping damage to worry about, and no pressure to “make sure” they hatch, or get my...
I have 2/4 pips now, they will probably hatch tonight/tomorrow. Then, another batch of 5 going into lockdown for a Saturday hatch 🙈 hatching just about every two days…I’m constantly cleaning the second incubator (used only as a hatcher) and mini-brooder for newborns. Never again lol
…but dang...
Ok, so between Sunday and today, I hatched 6 from my own flock. 5/6 look like pure Bresse or Bresse mixes (straight comb) and the last one is a wyandotte mix penguin baby (Rose comb).
I already integrated the older chicks from this weekend with the Mar 7/8 babies. So far, so good.
I never thought I would love a “boring white chicken” breed as much as the Bresse! I hatched out a bunch last summer as well, boys for meat and girls for eggs. The girls are so sweet and curious, confident, good layers. All around a solid breed so far 👍 I hope you hatch lots of healthy chicks!
Here are the first three chicks from my own flock! The little orange fluff might be from my only red hen, and the yellows might be pure Bresse. I won’t know until their legs start turning blue, but I’m pretty sure my Bresse boy is the father of these.
We’ll see what kind of combs and colors...
