I have several pips, including 2 of the 5 remaining Light Sussex eggs. Please wish these 5 well! I only have the one hen and now I'm afraid I might lose their father. :( I've got to put my hope in these 5 little guys.
Sorry I haven't kept up with the thread the last couple of days. So many hatched chicks! Congratulations to everyone!
I have 22 gone into lockdown this evening- all 17 of my Bresse eggs and 5 of my 7 Light Sussex (one clear, one early quitter). One of the 5 remaining Light Sussex eggs is...
Is that pip in the pointy end? If so, it looks like it's malpositioned.
I had a few like that in both of my hatches last year. It's early because it was actually trying to pip internally but ended up having to do an external pip at the same time because it didn't pip into the air cell. It...
They are lovely! I'm sorry about the other three but congratulations on the four that made it. I'm glad they dried out for you!
Yes, it's so stressful! This is only my third time and I'm not really stressed now but I know I will be on day 21. It's so worth it, though. Enjoy your little cuties!
If they're all out you could safely let out all of that humidity. It's only needed for ones that are still pipped or soon to pip. You probably could move them and dry it quickly but I don't think you really need to and I'd say they're better off staying in there. You should remove any water...
Lovely chicks! Do you use a special tool to get those bands onto them? I'm looking for a better option for chick bands and I was interested in trying something like you have.
I use spiral bands on my adult birds but I've yet to find a good solution for chicks.
What is the humidity reading at? It usually spikes up very high when one hatches because of all the moisture from inside the egg and the wet chick itself but then it usually drops back down and stabilises after a few minutes. I suppose if you have a few hatch at the same time it might add a lot...
Thank you!
Yes, I agree with that! I thought I was just getting a meat breed but I'm so impressed with how good they are all round. Amazing foragers as well.
It does make the meat part harder, though. We planned all along to eat all but the best two cockerels so we were prepared for that and...
I'm very excited to join the thread. My eggs are on day 7 but I guess I waited until now to join because I wasn't sure if any would develop.
It's my third time hatching but my first ever with eggs from my own flock. I set 17 Bresse eggs and 7 Light Sussex. I really didn't know what to expect...
They're lovely. I have Bresse as well that I hatched in July and now the next generation is on the way in the incubator! They are a lovely breed, aren't they? Maybe I had low expectations because I started them for meat and was trying not to get too attached to them but I've been surprised at...
