Oh my! Sorry for the loos of your hen. I've heard people say they will attack, but I always thought it wasn't true. Definitely gonna watch out now, even though we mostly have Turkey Vultures here.
Made me nervous to see, but they did just seem to run past pretty fast. A lot of animals come through my yard to get to the other side of the wooded area. Seems to be mostly during hunting season.
I agree with @KDOGG331, we have more hens and still have a few that are favorites and the rest are not really bothered. We just bought some saddles/aprons for the few and now the rooster doesn't bother with them as much.
There is someone in Monson, MA that sells them. Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe it's in pairs only. There is a thread here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/509483/cream-legbars/8310
We use pine shavings. They ended up being the cheapest and easiest to clean. We don't use water in the coop unless it's an emergency and in a crate, so they don't get smelly. We also clean the poop boards everyday. I also don't recommend hay because it can get moldy or straw because it is hard...
Welcome to the group! I have a Production Red rooster (hatchery quality RIR) that was supposed to be a girl. We tried to find him a good home but we love him now, so it looks like he may stay. Are you allowed roosters where you live?
