BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

I bought mine in 33 lb. bales from Hemp Solutions and had it shipped because there is not a distributor anywhere close to me. Another source for hemp by the bale is American Hemp. (Google each of those names, their sites will be the first in the listing, excepting any potential Google ads). New...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

My 13 chicks are now 3 weeks old. They are enjoying the 3' x 6' brooder DH built for them but they need to go outside ASAP. (They will GO as soon as the rain lets up long enough for us to put up the chicken run on our mini-coop.) Meanwhile, I wanted to share my experience with the hemp litter I...

I have one each of the Ecoglow and Premier plate heaters. I far prefer the Premier 1 version! The plates on both do the same thing. The big difference is how the plates are supported. The Brinsea Ecoglow uses two supports which cannot be adjusted other than high and low. Those supports are...

Lucky chicks! My brooder is the same size and I'm putting a hinged sheet of plywood on top. I'm using plywood because it's what I have on hand and 6 feet can be unwieldy without a hinge. I started 3 chicks last year in a much, much smaller brooder so I think your 6 will be plenty comfortable...

Nice job! I recommend you add something around the bottom to keep the pine shavings inside the brooder. I lined my brooder with a tarp that comes part way up the sides. (Be careful not to get a heat lamp too close to a tarp.) And I've seen others tape paper on the outside or hang some plastic...

That looks like a good idea! Can you please upload a pic that shows how the glass jar comes off the chain/support for cleaning and refilling?

I have a "mini-coop" which is really just a tiny shed we converted for this purpose. We plan to move 3 week old chicks there from our indoor brooder. (It would be better to section off a portion of the main coop so they could stay out of reach of the adults but the chicks and adults could see...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Last year, we used a large plastic storage container. I modified it for use as a brooder but we had bad weather and the chicks needed an expansion before they could go outside. Last week, I came home from a trip and found my DH had gone a bit overboard on this year's brooder. To give you an idea...
