Impressive! It took a long time before my duck would bear weight on it.

I'd keep him inside for a bit just because it's really tender and I figure too much action is a bad thing. He might always be slow at moving around, but no harm in letting him go out there at least for a while.

I did every other day for a week then gradually stretched it out until it was pretty much all healed and then I only changed it twice a month. At that point it was more to prevent her roughing up the end than to prevent infection. I left it on so long because this is a big bone end that needs to...

Sounds good. Give him some Epsom salt soaks—they really do draw infection out.

Yes, I have had a Welsh Harlequin duck that lost a foot to frostbite. She got around all right. Tlmcq, you're going to love the Swedish. I have two (one blue, one black) and they're such chatty, sweet ducks.

Yes, unlike chickens, they will choke if they have access to food and not water.

I don't have any pictures of my water set up, but I'll try and get some today. I made a frame for a 1gal bucket that leaves only a few inches of space for them to get their heads in up to their eyes. It's not heated, so I still have to smash ice out 2--3x per day, but it keeps them from...
