I like cormorants myself.
I spent a semester at Duke's marine lab in Beaufort, NC and loved to watch the cormorants holding their wings out in the wind to dry.
I'm assuming it was some kind of serious backyard breeder or a homesteader selling eggs and/or raising meat birds of various types. I had 47 chickens this summer without even really trying.
My birds are back in lockdown.

People don't go into animal agriculture if they don't love animals. They're not out there trying to get a sick thrill from torture, they're trying to do a horrible job the best way they can in order to prevent a bad situation from getting worse. :(
Because it's been a month since a case was reported in NC and since summer heat has arrived, I decided to set up the fence and let the birds out this evening.
The two roosters led all the senior birds outside while the youngsters stayed in the coop.
