NO! You can’t ask a dumb question...... because there is no dumb question. 😂 Now to answer you. NN’s are actually a very good meat bird. When I said they were hardy birds I actually meant they are really healthy. They seem to be very resistant to diseases, etc. However, I think they are also...

Yep, me too. @WallyBirdie, as I was reading the names versus the sexes I thought, “Oops, these babies were named long before their gender was known.” So funny.

Yes, using the crafting canvas, the chicks were getting into the next compartment via the sides. I had no idea and thought the walls of the bator would serve fabulously as the outer edges. What’s that old saying, “You live and you learn!”? :idunno

Well, the past 30 or so posts have really peaked my attention. I got on BYC just a while ago because of my very eventful afternoon. She is such a precious pup and I hope she fattens up quickly with nothing major being wrong. :hugs I found a rattlesnake in my newest coop this afternoon and I was...

:yuckyuck What’s so funny about this statement is that sometimes after a full day of foraging my NN, Mrs. Biggles, looks as though “her ‘cleavage’ done spilled over and out.” The nakedness of her crop will sometimes make me do a double take. :lau:eek:

I wanted to get a male and breed my CCL’s, but this snipet has me a bit alarmed. Are the CCL males on the aggressive side as a whole or are they like most all the others and it just depends?

:lau Well, I’m a bit of a self-described chicken wh*re. To begin with I only wanted regular brown eggs, as I had only ever had white store bought eggs. My first purchase was was Buff Orpingtons, Amberlink, and Red Star. I was a happy chicken keeper until I really began to read up on the...

My one Dorking is a sweetie. Their body shape is different from most others, short legged and long bodied. When I read about them before ordering one it said they were known for tender and delicate meat.

I was sucked into the trap of “so ugly they’re cute” a little over a year and a half ago and it’s true. But since then I’ve realized what hardy birds they are. I have butchered two NN cockerels and they both produced a good carcass, one at 13 weeks and the other at 23 weeks.
