The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

To be honest, I've heard they were going to do something like that (U.S. Eurovision, that is), but I've never seen or heard any more of it 🤔 The music that tends to be most popular here is definitely not my taste, so I'm afraid it would be pretty disappointing for me to watch. :hmm Big same...

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Unfortunately, they block most of their youtube channel for U.S. viewers. :hmm I just downloaded a free VPN and set it to Europe so I could watch the full show anyway 😀 Yeah, to me a lot of the performances last night were pretty meh songs with boring staging. I remember thinking that most of...

Shoot, I forgot about Eurovision, too! It's weird, all April I was keeping track of how it was building up, and then May hit and it completely left my brain. 😵‍💫

Oh my heart, that precious little tiny in the mix :love I know you have said you don't know exactly which chick is which outside a select few, but do you have any guesses or estimations? Just curious  I love the variety of chipmunky colors on those bigger chicks!

Yeah, I wouldn't think there would be any part of a chandelier that would be toxic or leave fumes or anything. If you wanted to be extra extra safe, you could wipe it out like TwoCrows suggested, though. I think it'll do the job just fine. 🙂

What if any labels are on the outside of the box? Are there any stains or smells coming from the cardboard? No dust/powdery residue or mold spots or anything? It's most likely fine to use as a brooder if it looks clean and doesn't have any smells in it or anything like that.

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Truly :love I know a lot of people don't enjoy the brooder stage of chickens, but it's probably my favorite stage. I do love my adults, but there's something so compelling about when they're leetle bitties even if they are little dust-making poop machines. 🤭 Oh, well, yuck about the smell...

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Yeah, incubators have all that... incubatory stuff to work around. Fans and wires and heating elements, etc. At least heat plates are just a block of plastic! I'd always carefully taken a damp paper towel around the fan and wires in my incubator tops and just kind of blown out as much of the...

I've definitely never done that before.

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Fluffy, I went out in a T-shirt, shorts, and sandals to open my coops and feed the birds this morning. I kept thinking it was a little cooler than I expected compared to the past few mornings, but not bad, and I had no problems getting everyone taken care of without feeling cold, myself. Came in...

Sorry to hear about the losses / clears, but it sounds like there's still a lot of activity in there! Go, go, Koulouraki and friends!!

You should have plenty of time to adjust with just the weekly candlings, as long as they're in good shape by lock down day. If I'm making adjustments to humidity, I'll peek after a day or two just to make sure that they're reacting as I'd hoped. As mentioned, there's a lot of wiggle room with...

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

That's not a bad name, it's got a story behind it! 🤭 I also think it's kind of cute using the double meaning of chick that way. You should give yourself more credit! Speaking of names, though, what about Κουλουράκι / Koulouraki? Is that okay as a name? I didn't see any others named too...

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Haha, I don't know if that's the case! It just takes me forever because I'm particular about finding the right 'fit' for each bird. I don't know if that makes me better at naming them or just a little bit off my rocker about names. 🤣 Eastery or Greeky... 🤔 I can work with that.

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Oh my, you'll have to give me a little time to think on that! After all, it took me until just a few days ago to finish naming my own birds that hatched back in 2023 🤭 Are you doing anything specific theme-wise with their names?

Has everyone claimed their new eggs now? I'd like to call Tsouloufati number 7 if so, assuming no one called that one and I missed it.

Sure, just let me know which ones are available when you're done! 🙂

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

So sorry to hear about the potential blood rings, Fluffy :hugs You know I candle a ton sometimes, and I've never noticed a difference in embryo losses between batches where I candle like crazy and batches that I'm more busy with life and don't candle as much. Based on my experience, I really...

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

I'm probably the wrong person to ask about humidity. I don't even use a hygrometer in my incubators so I don't have any numbers to give you 😅 I let the eggs tell me if my humidity is good. Air cells too small at candling days, then I'll put less water in and open the vents more. Too big, I'll...
