I thought I was done until fall. :hide
Who can resist eggs from @Sueg4332? :idunno
White Marans, CLB x BLH, Brahama, Ameraucan, and Ameraucan x CLB. :D
Thanks, a hot bath and chicken therapy, and I'm feeling much better. Sabrina the Sebastopol/crested goose got a new pen today, and Bill painted one of his yard sale finds and planted it with "hen & chicks" so we're all good here. (=
We woke to find a few CLBs, BLRW, and OEs have hatched. All other eggs 20+ have pipped &/or begun to zip. Just as I was about to celebrate, I noticed the temp is 103 and one thermometer shows that the temp range in the past 24 hours has been 106-95! One chick is dead. The others are panting. We...
Bill called me at work. Couldn't answer because I was on another line. Then he texts this pic
White crested black Polish chicks! There were 5 at the feed store, he's turning around to get the other three. I LOVE that guy!
Two Langshan eggs hatched by our broody (Ruby Begonia). First one looks as I expected it would- black with feathered feet.
The second also has feathered feet, but it's not black (as advertised, lol), so would this one be considered blue, or do I need to wait until it grows a bit to determine...
I candled eggs on Tuesday night and removed many clears and quitters. I noticed that the 10 Brown Leghorn eggs looked like they were more developed that the others. Sue took them from a broody hen, so we knew they had started to develop, but we weren't for sure how long she had been sitting &...
Our first ever broody, Ruby (Begonia) is a mama just in time for Mother's Day! She's hatched 3 so far, we removed 2 clears and put 2 chickens hatched earlier today + 3 pipped eggs. Looks like we'll have at least two BLRW! :weee
I would ask the clerk at your local PO how to have the packages addressed so they arrive at the PO you usually use- the location where they know you. It seems odd that packages addressed to you for pick up would end up anywhere other than your PO, but for the life of me, I don't understand how...
Set/Hatched so far for May are 89 eggs.
3 little gray OEs from @ForrestGump hatched yesterday and today.
Two sets of BLRW (one batch from @mothergoose) + Langshan, a few more of Nanci's mixes- probably more NNs, a few eggs under our first ever broody EE, plus CLB, OE & Brown Leghorn from @Sueg4332
I'm in!
I have eggs set to hatch May 6-8. Langshan, Columbian Wyandottes, and barnyard mixes.
I think this will be it for me for a while unless a hen goes broody. Have to keep chicken & garden chores to a minimum with fishing season started and camping on the horizon. (This morning we were...
