Looks like I’m going to end up with 16 hatched out of 24 fertile eggs. Not awesome but not terrible.

It is just a janoel so small and those weird row dividers instead of individual egg spots. For my purposes seems to work just as well to deal with a lengthy hatch. Three eggs left. No pips.

Day five candling and I pulled 3 clears and 3 early quitters. 21 left.

I set 27 jumbo eggs this morning. I calibrated two thermometer/hygrometers beforehand and ended up setting the incubator temp higher than any of my other hatches. Makes me nervous but trust the calibration I guess. :fl

:eek: I don’t know how you run it so low. I need to check my notes but I seem to have issues with tough membranes if I run it too low. What about at lockdown?

I’m in the midwest and without adding water until lockdown I was originally hatching around those same humidities. Since I starting incubating closer to 45% and hatching around 65% my hatches have been better. Fewer malpositioned and fewer shrink wrapped and tough membranes. I was kind of going...

That is kind of what I was thinking. It would be a pretty unlikely coincidence if both parents just happened to have the gene. The eggs are so pretty though I may have to set some just because though. :oops:

Anyone know if the chicks that hatch out of my random celadon eggs have any chance of being celadon layers themselves? The female laying them was not specifically bred to lay celadon eggs but is from Myshire so :confused:

I got another blue/green egg from the new group today. Thinking it could be a real celadon :fl

Eggs three and four from the new layers. Could this be a celadon or just short on paint? It looks a bit more blue in person but not a true blue blue if that makes sense?

So we butchered the extra quail today and I’m pretty sure we accidentally offed a young female. I swear they all had solid breast feathers though. Does their coloring ever not match their sex? They were Pharoah, Italian and Falb fee. Not sure which was the oops.

Is the chirping yellow a bit bug eyed or is it just a funny camera angle?

I had a duck once who would steal kibble out of the dog kennel. He could fit his head through the fence wire and grab it out of the bowl. To be fair the dog would run in the duck pen and eat the cracked corn though too. :hmm

Final stats on my homegrown hatch: 7 Set on 05/05/20 -1 clear -1 DIS =5 happy chicks (And no brooder deaths so far :fl)

So I ended up helping two of the males. One of the birds in the quarantine pen was a jerk and attacked them again. :rolleyes: We’ll see what happens with the other five. How do people with larger amounts of birds even get them to butchering age without the darn things massacring each other?

Do you think the three injured will be okay together? I have my laying flock, a grow out pen where the six weekers are and an outdoor brooder area where the injured are. More separation than that would be a stretch.
