Predator alert system, cheap, effective, even works on bears

Here is a really nice predator alert system that not only wakes you up but scares off the predator at the same time. It is a simple device / booby trap, that is trip wire activated and fires off either a 12 gauge shotgun shell BLANK or an optional 12 gauge shotgun shell loaded with a non lethal PEPPER BLAST, both of which aim toward the ground as not to cause actual harm to chickens, livestock, or the predator.

You just mount it on a fence post, or wall, tree, whatever, and run your trip wire thru eye hooks wherever you want it to go, even 100 feet away if that is where you want it to trip the device from, or rig it so the predator trips the wire when close to the coop, rig the unit to blast when right up close, 10, 20, 30, 50ft away, however you want to rig it. Best to place the charge away from the coop, don't want to give the chickens a heart attack.
Nice thing about these is you can re-rig it anytime, so the predator keeps setting it off even if it changes it's approach strategy, like Raccoons & Foxes do, though most never return after getting blasted by this little gem of a booby trap, works on human prowlers too, it REALLY scares the living daylights out of anything that trips it, man or beast, a totally unexpected surprise letting everyone within a 1/2 mile know something is up.
This even works on bears, so much fun to watch them run, while the garden & chickens go unscathed.

I helped my old neighbor make something similar to that for vandals but it was made with a clothes pin with two screws in the tip as electrical contacts, a piece of plastic spoon to hold the contacts from touching, 9 volt battery and a ping pong ball filled with flash powder with a model rocket trigger in it. When the spoon is pulled out by the trip wire the clothes pin closes contacting the screws together and the circuit is complete from the battery to the model rocket trigger. FASHOOM!!! The sound scares the pee pee out of them and the bright flash disorients them. A person has a right to protect their property.

To use something like this you pretty much have to live in a rural area. Probably some questionable stuff on legality as well which is dumb considering the trespassing person/animal has more right to trespass than you do to protect your own property from them. I can guess name a few states that probably already outlawed the use of these. California, new york, Illinois, well just look to the colors of the states in the last election would be a good bet.

I like your booby trap as you described it, FLASH & BANG is an unbeatable combination for non lethal devices, but PEPPER BLAST added in the mix sure livens up the party nicely.

Here is a Cut & Paste from their website regarding states it is not allowed to be used in:

"This ammo is restricted in the following cities and/or states: All of Alaska; Los Angeles, CA; Sacramento, CA; San Francisco. CA; All of HI; All of IL; All of MA; NYC, NY; Bronx, NY; Brooklyn, NY; Manhattan, NY; Staten Island, NY; Queens, NY; Washington D.c., APO & FPO Addresses, No PO boxes.
Attn: New York State customers - due to NY state law "Safe Act" we can no longer ship ammo to New York State. We will ship the 12ga signal alarm system with out the 12ga blank round."

HA HA yeah some of the same techniques I used in urban assault while in the military. We just would hang the flash ping pong ball up high so no one could have it go off in their face. Legal? Maybe not but is alot safer than what ole joe biden said of just blasting off a couple shotgun blasts from the porch. All I thought when he said that was "and the rounds you fired land where?" "Hits what?" "What if you shot a power line in the dark joe?" "oh you shot at the ground and that makes it safe?" "What if a scared kid was hiding under your porch from the bad guy your trying to scare off?" Then would come the excuse of joe saying they were just blanks. Which is no different than the shotgun early warning device on both aspects of it shooting at the ground and being blanks which I'm sure Joe would argue shouldn't be legal.

And on the fun of seeing the bears run in your first post?
Yeah I was over that way when I assume one of the meth heads trying to tear up his stuff set off the flash. They scrambled in the dark obviously lost their night vision, found their way back to their beater vehicle, crept down the road away from the blast and pulled over again until their night vision came back. For some reason they stopped coming over stealing stuff and tearing his equipment up. They probably thought someone had shot at them and was sitting there waiting for them.

I wonder if a rigged pepper sprayer booby trap is legal? LOL

The restricted areas didn't surprise me other than alaska. I doubt the people there really give a hoot what the law says anyways since they are mostly their own police, emt, fireman, cab driver, grocery store, bar, emergency rescue, etc.
Big city people just don't understand. A call to the police at my home will take at least 15 minutes before even one officer shows up. Maybe longer. Guess it takes 15 minutes to break into a persons house or put them in any danger.
Once I saw a drunk driver literally run the vehicle behind me off the road, hit a mailbox, swerved over both lines, and I called the local police before the guy killed someone. Guess what? Central dispatch said the officer was on the other side of the county and by the time he got there the drunk driver would probably be home. I'm not kidding. So if the drunk driver hit the people behind me and drove off then what? Let him go since the officer is all the way across the county?

I'm right there with you. I live in a county that I KNOW may have four officers on patrol at a time. Thing is, it can take an hour to get from one end to the other. Plus, if the local hospital has to transport a psych patient, there goes one officer. When my mother-in-law's house was broke into last year, it took just under an hour for the officer to respond. Turns out four houses were broke into within a two hour time-frame. The last time that I called 911 to get my husband to the hospital, it took twenty-five minutes for the EMS to show up. I live TWO minutes from the station and less than FIFTEEN minutes from the hospital.

Lesson to learn? Learn to take care of yourself because there not be anyone else there to help you when you need it.
