Hello,
I have 3 hens that have decided to co-parent together now that their chicks have all hatched.
1 Easter Egger hatched 6 chicks 8 days ago.
1 Orpington hatch 14 chicks 2 days ago along with another Easter Egger who hatched 3 chicks 2 days ago as well.
Now the Orpington is a 4 year old pro super mama who has hatched for me before. She has also co-parented successful with other hens in my flock. She is also top of the pecking order. She does tend to take ALL 24 the chicks though and just allows the other hens to join her in the nest and chicks then end up under all 3 hens.
I’m glad she is showing the Easter Eggers how it’s done as they are first time moms and only 10 months old.
There has been zero squabbling and they seem fine all sharing the different chicks even outside of the nest as they take breaks and the chicks discover little bits here and there.
Im just wondering if they are all co-parenting at this point it shouldn’t be ok, correct? I’ve read online of hens killing other chicks.
I had to move them all into a bigger dog crate so they could fit.
it’s very cute!
Not the best photo as it was after sundown, but had to share.
