Do I do the pinprick right at lockdown? I have read to only do it if internally pipped or if you see a bruise on the egg then do it in the middle of thatExactly! My own first duck hatch was a disaster. Now, once they go into lockdown, I make a pinprick hole in the air cell part of the shell and let them do the rest. I check often to see which has internally pipped. And then periodically when they've externally pipped.
Once they start to zip, they're usually out within an hour. I won't interfere until after that.
