Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

hhmmm how might that work with my Lavender pullets

You could cross lavender ameraucanas and wheaten ameraucanas. I wouldn't use blue wheaten or splash wheaten, or chocolates as they mess up the way lavender looks. Regular wheaten and lavender could be bred and worked into lavender wheaten which is quite pretty. There is another person working on it somewhere but I can't remember who.

Ah, so you can make not only Chocolate Wheatens, but Mauve wheaten and Mauve Splash Wheaten as well! Those would be interesting to see how they turn out.

Are there chocolate Ameraucanas you can use for this, or do you have to cross with a chocolate breed to bring it in?

If you put the lavender with the chocolate instead of the blue, I think that makes Isabella. Would you then be wanting solid Isabellas, or Isabella Wheaten?

I have some chocolate ameraucana hens that I'm using.Chocolate and lavender shouldn't be mixed together. They don't make isabella.

They are beautiful, but they aren't Ameraucana. Those are Easter Eggers. Note the clean faces. Ameraucana always have muffs and beards.

Thank you for clearing that up, I knew something wasn't right because like I said I didn't get what I expected but hey they are pretty fellas and fairly well behaved..... Most days. Thank you for the info, helps alot

Slate leg colour is just starting to come in on these chicks. :D I am going to go through each one (2 pics of each) and say if I think male of female. :p Your thoughts on these would be appreciated. I have Blue Wheaten, Wheaten, and Splash.

I believe pics labeled 1, 3 and 5 are male
and pics labeled 2, 4 and 6 are female.

I have one more chick, but she (I believe is a she) got lonely and jumped back in with the mix of them, so wasn't able to figure out who it was I missed. But I believe it too is a female.

It also seems like I have a Blue Pair, a Wheaten Pair and a Splash Pair... though not altogether sure! :D 3.5 weeks age. Beards are also pretty slim at the moment. Neck feather and such seem to be starting to grown in, though.. dang these birds are WAY slow growers. lol

I'd guess 3, 5 & 6 are male, but give them all just a bit more time to be sure...
