We had one of those a while back. pretty cool and yep it's a start!

Isn't it? What surprised me was the fact that it was hard shelled.

She'll build up to bigger ones. Having the hard shell shouldn't surprise you though, she is clearly getting all the nutrients she needs.

All of the rest started with soft/no shell.

Seriously, some do start off soft/no shell; sometimes, even when they are established layers, they may still produce the odd one that is soft/no shell. You could add some extra calcium to their feed if it becomes a problem though. I bake the empty shells, crumble them up and add that to their feed - same as with my chooks.
