August 2023 hatch-a-long

Here is an Aug hatch-a-long. Hopefully others join me.

Well I wasn't planning on being in this hatch-a-long since I have been hatching since March. LOL But my July one to get the last few colored egg layers that I want is not going how it should. So I have new eggs being shipped that will hopefully go much smoother this time. and I am trying to win an auction for some CCL on ebay and hope they go better than the local ones I got. I may add in a few of my own as well if I have room. The eggs should be shipped on Mon and set around Thurs so an Aug 3-4 hatch date.

Day 20. 8 babies, 2 more pipped and 2 left to pip.

5 CCL have hatched. Think 3 girls and 2 boys.

Eggs came in today. I lost 2 outta 30 which is SUPER surprising based in the packaging. The air cells don't look too bad either....

One cracked egg was all over the box and some of the other eggs...and one was cracked but membrane not broken...so cracked it to check to see if it was fertile...it was...


Gonna let em rest till this evening...

#1 set 8/28. 28 EO shipped eggs plus 2 Orpington from my flock.
#2 set 8/30. 29 Orpington from my flock plus 1 EO shipped that had a crack.

Air cells look quite good in shipped eggs. A bit small on the ones from my flock.

I removed 4 spoiled eggs from #1, none from #2.

A good amount of the shipped eggs developing, and 14 from my flock are developing too.

Hatch date 8/18 and 8/20.

I am super excited but also very nervous since this is my second attempt and the first one didn’t go well.

Goodness I been so busy that the incubation time just flew by! To make matters worse one of my eggs has suddenly hatched just now! A day earlier than expected and its soccer balling the others!

Out of 29 shipped eggs 16 made it to lockdown and 15 hatched!

I am a total beginner so I consider this a success!

Still waiting on eggs from my own flock: due in a couple of days.

Woohoo!!!!! Won the CCL eggs on eBay!!! They should ship Mon as well as the ones from my other breeder. So should have them Wed or Thurs

day 3 so candled my eggs.

I had 8/8 CCL developing!!!!! So excited about these (have 4 others that I am giving a co-worker)

Then 3/3 from my blue EE (she lays teal eggs)/Cochin roo cross.

0/3 from my EE (she is red and white and lays very very pale blue eggs)/Cochin cross

then think it is 3/12 from my normal breeder I get shipped eggs from, very very low rates from her recently). but I had I think 4 project cochins and don't think any are developing, so maybe fluffy butt issue or it is too darn hot there that the Cochins are saying NO way! LOL But I have 2 BYM blue eggs, and a "Reds kids" Blue egg (there is a frizzle cochin, think another cochin and something else in there. LOL).

So overall not bad and will give me enough to choose from if they keep developing. Have 14 going which is a good #.
