Bedding under heat plate?

I’m about to hatch quails for the first time. I’ve bought a heat plate for the brooder but was wondering if it’s safe to have sawdust bedding under the heat plate Or if I should keep bedding away from heat plate?

I never had a problem with bedding under a heat plate, but it could just mean I was lucky not to burn the house down. I am going to follow this thread and see if someone has real information on this subject.

I have a comfort heat plate and had pine mulch under mine. The heat plates don't get super hot so I reckon you should be ok

I have pine shavings under mine. When you plug it in you'll be able to feel that it's just warm to the touch.

I have bedding under my heat plate. Double check with yours, but most heat plates are not designed to radiate much heat. The instructions on mine said to keep low enough for the chicks to actually touch the plate to get the proper warmth.

I have pine shavings under mine. It showed it in the advertisement so I figured it was safe. They don't actually make contact with it in mine, though.
