Hello! First, thank you BYC family for all the assistance in helping us get our chicks outside comfortablely and sooner lol

Second, I know all these photos are not quite to standard and will try again in a week when they are 6 weeks--they were super excited to be outside lol - moved out today but not first time outside

but any tips on what genders we might have? We have 14 and were hoping for more hens (yes, the roos will be food- but they are getting feisty quickly)

Any markers we can look for? We've read all BA gender posts, and know the bright red wattles/combs at 6wk seems normal consensus, yes? Thank you for any and all assistance.

Straight run from TSC, got them March 1, they said they were a day or two old, so we are putting Mondays as our weeks.

Eta: central Indiana

Your last picture shows a boy down at the bottom. Any with a similar comb color and size at that age will generally be males. I see more females personally.

Better pics from tonight

Adding these to see if we are getting better at guessing, so I know the photos aren't great as they were moving :)

We also have BLK AUS. Our advantage was the breeder marked our roo and we were able to watch the growth. He was always taller and lanky. Comb growth was larger and redder. Easy to monitor because we only purchased 5. We also got 4 more 8 wks later and they are all definitely hen birds. I'm not good with pictures but I'd venture to say you have a few roosters.

Update: new photos, six 6 week old Black Australorp pullets- small combs/wattles and cockerels(large combs/wattles and turning red). You can definitely tell them apart, while it does help we get to observe their behaviors too.

Ignore the photo bomber lol he's been enamored with the phone since he was tiny lol

Thanks for updating pics. I have 2 black Australorps in our mix at 7 weeks I’m watching. With yours, they definitely are differentiated.

At almost 11 weeks, out of the 14 we originally got, 8 roos 6 pullets, we kept five and sold a pair to a friend of ours.

Here are the five pullets for reference. Oh and the roos were growing at 8 ish weeks.

Nice! Sorry you had to rehome some. Ours are just over 11 weeks I think. Here’s the two.
