Hello.
I have a Black Australorp chick. She had been fine and her beak was normal for the past 3 weeks. I brought them home April 6th. But, today I noticed that her beak is F***ed up big time. It actually looks broken to me. It hangs open and when I touch it gently it seems to be loose. She is eating and drinking and chirping just fine along with the others. But, her beak looks horrible!!! I feel so bad. But have no idea how this could have happened!!! What should I do for her? Thank you for your time! I add some pictures. The first being 2 days after I got her. The rest are the current state of her beak.

I've had cross beak show up in day olds and 2-week olds. Not the best prognosis. It will likely starve to death unless the angle is acute enough to allow her to grab food.

You will need to trim her beak every 2-4 weeks so her beak doesn't get too long. And tube feed if it gets worse when she grows and you probably don't wanna use it for breeding in the future.

Yeah, we weren't planning to use them for breeding. Just eggs at the moment. Thank you. Do you think it is scissor beak? In the one picture, I thought it looked kind of bent in half??? I thought it was broken! And it feels kind of flimsy.

Oh, so it might be cross beak. It was just so shockingly sudden, that's why I thought she broke her beak. It even looks to be kind of hanging, like, bent. So I thought it was broken. And flimsy to the touch.

Yes for the first several days, there will be some wiggle in the jaw. Broken beak was my thought the first time one of mine had it, too.

I had a cross beak in the past and had to file her beak every couple of months to ensure she was able to eat. Keep a eye on that as it is a issue with cross beak birds. The beak can become over grown and prevents them from being able to intake enough food. They become used to the file and don't mind it after a few times. Just something to look out for. Hope this helps
