I take in alot of the chicks that are not doing well from our farm supply store. This time I took in a chick that seems to have a broken leg. She lays with it stretched out completely behind her. Won't put weight on it. She is in good spirits. She wants to eat and drink. Although she can't move so I am using eye droppers. I have never dealt with this. Any advice? I did splint it (retired nurse). Electrolytes and yoke given.

Keep it splinted, minimize movement and hopefully in a couple weeks she’s good as new (calves are three weeks to heal, I would assume chicks are as quick or quicker!)

Hi Hank,
We found a surprise lone chick in our coop this morning. She has the same situation where one leg sticks out behind her. She does move it but doesn’t seem to actually stand on it when it underneath her.
How did things work out with your chick? Did you splint it? For how long? I have a pic but not sure how to attach it. And it looks exactly like your pic but this chick is smaller, maybe two days old?
